How can I promote (outside of Ebay) a very special item I am selling on Ebay?

This is a serious question - i'm not being nasty or funny.
Carrie.
Without reading the full text of all the reviews - because that would imply i have a remote interest in it - i would imagine LDV built it to demonstrate what 'could' be done with an LDV van as opposed to what 'should' be done!!0 -

Item number removed - Forum Team 2
Poor show! what about all the other "interesting" items that are posted here? The humorous, the wacky and weird and the downright insane.. are we no longer allowed to post those item numbers either??
There wasn't even a direct link to the van in question! :rolleyes:0 -

of course you are thats what this forum is about. BUT the OP gave out an active ebay item number to their own item that they were trying - as was the point of the post in the first place - to advertise outside of ebay.
this forum is NOT for advertising your own items - read martins sticky on the subject.0 -

Hey Paul - hate to make it look like I'm picking solely to argue with you today, but just to pick you up on the sticky rules point!
In the stickies own words : "Just to note. Please don't use this board as a place to link to goods you have on sale. That isn't what it's for."
This is a bit of a redundant point as the item number has already been removed and I don't forsee any point/interest in bringing back but there never was a link to the item. There was an item number on its own. Anyone interested in finding out what the item was would have had to open up a browser window, navigate to ebay and search for the item number - only to be sorely disappointed by a bit of a crap looking van
That's why I find it a bit strange that the item - which is a novely item like all the other items which ARE allowed to be linked to - was removed.0 -

The OP was the SELLER and provided the item number to an ACTIVE auction and if that isn't a link then i don't know what is. Its fine someone saying 'hey look at this guy selling his wife - its item number 24523455', its a different thing saying 'i am looking to promote my item that i am CURRENTLY selling - oh and the item number is XXXXXXXX'.
It was a link, it may not have been a direct link - but it was a link. If you were telling a mate about an item you had for sale on ebay that he might be interested in, you would tell him the unique item ID that would take him directly to that item in ebay. you wouldn't write down the complete URL. Therefore it was a link and the Abuse team saw it as that.0 -

At the risk of being pedantic, this is a link to an explanation of links
The OP/Seller provided a reply to a request for the item number. I think they were genuinely looking for advice on how to gain exposure to their item and from the replys at the start of the thread I think they achieved that. I didn't sense any ill-intent in the thread. If I was telling a mate then I would actually tell them my userid since it's quite a bit easier to remember.0 -
Ohh so cause of the rules i can post the link and say jezz has anybody seen this one of item and the price its going for.
I have no interest in what the items sells for or by who ??
I think that the has got to be brought to the point that in the intrest of everbody NO LIVE auctions should be posted / Or maybe no links what so ever across the board as this can be seen as free advertising.
Argos board is just that giving a whole board to the advertisement of argos. They are live items to purchased, Argos will make a profit. = free advertising
Freebies however free are free advertising for the company.2008 Wins Jan Jimi Hendrix Live at Monterey: The Definitive Edition on HD DVD £12.98, £10 amazon voucher, £10 amazon voucher, £10 amazon voucher,£500 love2shop voucher, £10 amazon voucher, dvd and chocolate £8.12, Portable dvd player + town called eureka boxset £126Total £687.100 -
As far as we can see, the OP's original request for general information was fine, but as soon as they linked to their own auction on eBay, it had to be removed under our rules on selling. For the record, this would apply to any variation of this - not just linking (i.e. posting the number, or directions on finding it). Any clear attempt to refer people to a personal auction would be removed.
We try to be as far as we can with eBay links but where a link is clearly to an auction where it would make the poster money, it would be removed.
