How can I promote (outside of Ebay) a very special item I am selling on Ebay?

No i don't. i'm a regular money saver, and i happen to have a rather unique laptop for sale can we debate that??? heres the item number ..... see what i mean? 1455 people have looked at this so far on the forum listed - by someone asking how they would go about getting extra 'free' advertising??
From the sticky at the top of the ebay forum and in martins own words
'Just to note. Please don't use this board as a place to link to goods you have on sale. That isn't what it's for.'
And oddly, here we have an item number to an active auction that the OP has for sale.0 -

I guess it comes down to what the item is and how much it is worth as to where and how you publicise it!
VixxAnn was asked the item number they didnt automatically publish it or even say what it was.
I think maybe a bit common sense on your part is needed turning what i see a thread asking for advice etc into a blody debate on the ethics of free advertising which i see hasnt happened and hope the majority of mse members agree2008 Wins Jan Jimi Hendrix Live at Monterey: The Definitive Edition on HD DVD £12.98, £10 amazon voucher, £10 amazon voucher, £10 amazon voucher,£500 love2shop voucher, £10 amazon voucher, dvd and chocolate £8.12, Portable dvd player + town called eureka boxset £126Total £687.100 -

I totally agree with you...msdl28712 wrote:VixxAnn was asked the item number they didnt automatically publish it or even say what it was.

It was inevitable that after posting the original post the OP would be asked for the item number as curiousity would take over and I suspect that the OP was fully aware that this would happen.
I for one think that this is blatant advertising and should be discouraged. Sorry, but that's my opinion.0 -

They DID publish it and they didn't need to did they?
and so where do we draw the line? advertising is not what this forum is about
As i said, what will we have next - i have this cd for sale - item number - 12345678 - and i want advice on how else i can advertise it???
The number of views on the item has went up from several hundred when the post was put on to 1700+ now - oddly 1500+ people have viewed this post....
We have had posts removed here before - from people who do things like 'what do you think of this item?' when its very obvious its their own. This is just a more subtle version of that0 -
OK, I give in, I've no doubt that there are probably 100's of people on MSE on the lookout for a 10 grand concept truck with no idea where to find one, it's blatant advertising. If it was a low value item or something that feasibly a fair amount of people would be interested in I'd agree it was advertising. £10k LDV concept vans I think it's daft to say was advertising. Given the original request about where they could look to advertise/promote without knowing what the item was, someone was bound to ask what it was, and if the OP had then said "Oh it's an LDV concept van" how many do you think there are on Ebay to find and then someone else post the link?
Anyway about your concept laptop, what's so good about it, but no ebay links please, only descriptions?0 -
My goodness what a debate!! I would be interested to know the type of person who this auction is aimed at. My knowledge of this is not worth mentioning but I'm guessing there is a small niche who would love to bid on this.Auntie Savingsgirl 24/9/06 :j0

We are talking about a total one off concept vehicle (as in number one of one quantity made!) and if you saw it your jaw would drop I assure you
If this car is so amazing and got great reviews then why was only one made?
This is a serious question - i'm not being nasty or funny.

Yup, and ultimately the more people who see the ad, the better chance there is someone will know someone who is interested...
as is said in the trade, you only need one bum on the seat.0 -

yeah but ultimately thats what any advertising is about, letting as many people as possible know you have it, and hopefully it will click with someone.
Fair play to the OP, the more we debate this, the more it stays on the first page, the more people read it the more chance he has of punting it... BUT its against the rules of this forum.0
