I don't think it's been mentioned yet, but people might want to open their first (or only) Reward account in branch. This is because, in my experience, you can be scored for a credit card at the same time without undergoing a separate/additional credit card search (only the current account search is recorded).

This may be particularly beneficial at the moment because they're running their "Extras" promotion which gets you a special 12 months 0% on purchases card.

  • A big Oops, I really thought I had the worst credit history in the world, I've never accept a credit card in my life and I've never hold a current account apart from got one from Halifax since Jan this year. I applied today (a few hours back) and the account added to my online banking straight away.

Sorry if what I said about credit check is wrong, hope you get the account.

The best bid now to call them and enquire with account manager.

At the end of the day though, there's no need to move money around within Halifax now that a great many accounts offer FPs. Probably best to leave it in overnight though (just to 'register') before shipping it back out again.
Yes, this is what I was planning to do (and probably will do until somebody confirms they got their £5 after transferring from one of their other Reward accounts). With A&L's £250 (per recipient per day?) and Halifax's £500 (per transaction?) FP limits, it's going to be fun!

What do you mean with "instantly"?
I'm also an existing customer and I have just applied for one reward account. Although at the end of the application process I was told the new bank account number the following message appears

saying that my application still needs to be approved.

So I cannot access the new account yet.

Do you already have access to your new account?

Yes, it's on my online banking and listed as current account. One thing tho did you apply the account via online banking?

I recently moved 4 x £500 one after the other from Halifax to A&L.

Haven't tried the other way (yet) because I usually then move it from A&L to Egg 6.3% via debit card each month (instant credit :D).
  • OK fellow MSE'rs, work through this with me:

If I have 6 Rewards accounts, and I say have 250 spare pounds a month, and I set up a transfer from accounts 1-->6 on consecutive days that would be say 7 days. If I repeated this patterns 4 times, this this by definition would mean that I had paid in £1000 to each of the accounts in a month (i.e. 4x7 = 28 days), and I qualify for £30 per month??

    So £250 would return £360p.a..........now that's what I call a good rate of return!!!:T

Is there a folly in my plan somewhere?

So is that why I didn't get a credit card? Now I can't even get a credit card
