I actually got a letter through from my Lancaster branch *after* I opened [one of my accounts] saying if I went in with my payslip, 2 forms of ID and £100 of funds they would arrange to switch my DD's/SOs from another bank and give me £40 cash as a thank you
Luckily my transfer from A&L to Abbey has just gone through for their £100 so I will now transfer my solitary DD (poor old Talk Talk!) to Halifax for £40 - bingo!
Obviously I've already funded my three accounts so I'm hoping they don't need all the payslips and stuff but I'll happily go over the street get a list of DDs and SOs from Abbey and grab my £40, ta very much
U might like to mention to the branch that other branches are paying 50.00 for switching DDs/SOs from another bank.0 -

thanks
Best if you phone branches that are in your area and ask them if they are offering the 50,00 switch incentive.0 -
Opened three of these accounts last week, and all funded by £1,000. :j
This is not meant as a criticism, but am I the only one who is perturbed by all this talk of recycling money through the accounts, only keeping the money in overnight, standing orders, minimising loss of interest etc etc?
Is this sort of action not an open invitation to HBoS to close the accounts when they realise it's simply bonus abuse?
Would it not be better to give at least some resemblance to normal use ie. spread the deposits out over the month, use the debit card or cheques occasionally, set up a couple of standing orders, transfer the money in and out of other banks?
I know this would involve more work, but surely not too much effort for £15 a month?
Maybe I'm being paranoid, or spent too much time on the Gambling board, where bonus abuse is a big no-no, and accounts are closed immediately.
I know you can't compare the gambling and banking industries, after all one's a morally-bankrupt sector, forever trying to devise dubious new practices to fleece their customer's for short-term profits, whilst giving no thought to the long-term detrimental impact of their actions on society, whilst the other is .............. errr ............ ummm ............... yes!0 -
I'd agree, there is no way that they will allow people to be holding 6 current accounts for the long term0

It does seem a strange situation, but people will do it. I think I'm going to be more modest in my applications as, to be honest, I really like Halifax  (am I the only one?) and don't want to be ousted by them. You've never seen me, but I've been here all along - watching and learning...:cool:0

No, I quite like them too! I've never had any major problems and I really like their online set up too. also, over the past couple of years I've had some really good accounts, RS and fixed rate savings with them. And I've just finished stoozing with their 0% on purchases cc for 18months. So all in all I've not done too bad with them!!£2019 in 2019 #44 - 864.06/20190 -
i like HBOS too!! they're online banking is easy to use and quick. i have their One CC and numerous fixed savings with them. i have account with the majority of the other banks, HBOS is definitely the best in my opinion0

I quite like them too! After all I've been with them over 30 years ... through thick and - the odd - thin bits. Their online is superb and their accounts mainly OK ... if you're selective.
But don't forget these forums give a discordant view of their overall customer activity? Relatively few of their vast customer base will be opening inert Reward accounts simply for the net £5 per month. So I don't think the relatively few who do ..... are going to cause too many ripples on the pond.
Martin included the account in the weekly Email, which obviously hits a significant number of people. But painted it merely as a slightly off-beat current account. So those who don't read the forums are unlikely to pick up the 'multiple' possibilities. Unless they're as devious as you lot!If you want to test the depth of the water .........don't use both feet !0 -

So much for my application "blitz"! Think I'll hold fire with the others...or should I just pile in and make them anyway?Decided not to wait and fired off two more applications tonight...both accepted.
Think I'll now wait for the outcome of the first application, rather than do another one and risk ending up with 4 accounts
Now have 3 x HFX, 1 x possible (need 7 days to think about it) BoS, and 2 x "closed" (before they were even opened) BoS.
Will have to put BoS on hold for a while and maybe apply again at a later date.0 -
