does anyone know why it's taking so long to officially open the accounts, it looks like most people had luck straight away when they did it on sun morning, but as the day progressed, people got given an account number and sort code, but the account is pending. i opened 3 last night and assumed they would be fully opened today, but they haven't been. when i called last night the man was arsey and said the dept. was shut and to call back between 8 and 8 on monday which i didn't do.Kavanne

I find it disappointing that Halifax cannot adopt one current account instead of all these different ones. I do not fit neatly into any of them and conseuently I loose out.
I also have a Nationwide Flexaccount which used to pay credit interest and now it pays nothing.
This demonstrates you can never win with current accounts.
Further to my own quote yesterday I have thought about it and on reflection I could qualify for the £5 , (yet in the terms and conditions I could get more than this because I am a non tax payer and claim the full £6.25 from the HMRC )(IT IS IN THE SMALL PRINT) by putting my benefits payments money in addition to keep on transferring money by bacs from my other easy access savings accounts and them transferring them back again. As martin says do the minimum to get the maximum, also keep on withdrawing cash and then putting it back in again. Even though I have around £500 in monthly income, the computer at the Halifax should show that I deposited more than the £1,000 to qualify for the reward.
I opened my account on online today with no trouble and I deposited the opening £100.00 and they automatically gave me a £100 overdraft. I await the card and chequebook. I will still keep the existing account open.0 -
Can anyone verify this?
I doubt it. If you upgrade / redesignate an account - only the status changes. Therefore all the attachments such as Sort Code / Account Number /chequebook / DDs / SOs etc remain the same. So there would be no need to issue a new DC ..... unless the existing one was at the point of expiry? If you want to test the depth of the water .........don't use both feet !0 -
I suspect opening multiple accounts online triggers a warning flag that requires a manual authorisation, hence slowing down the process.
On a different note, I've logged in this morning and the money I transferred into my two working accounts yesterday and Sunday has disappeared.

First two opened fine, third awaiting decision. Does anyone know if you transfer the £1000 between the various Reward Current accounts it qualifies for the £5, or does the £1000 have to come from other sources? Also, I can't see how much you can leave in these accuonts to keep them open. I think I've read on this thread £1 will do, is this correct?0

No, you can take take it right down to £0. It's just a normal current account, so if it goes below £0 and into overdraft it will still stay open (you will just be charged!).0 -
My 3rd current account is now open however only my new sole current account and my joint account are showing as reward current account. My old sole account is still a 'current account'. Congratulations incompetent telephone banking, Halifax!!Kavanne
