What do you think?
You are on a knife edge, although things will improve from August 09. You have nothing in for clothes, repairs etc.
There is very little you can cut from you living costs but I seriously doubt if your tactics with mobiles is cost effective.
Check out the telephone section on here and see what cheap or free calls you can make using the various re-routers. That would dramatically reduce your phone costs.
The water meter sounds a good idea and you can reverse it within a year if it does not work for you. May be only 120 a year but it all helps.
Read the boost you income thread above and you can get maybe £30-50 per month in vouchers.
Sign up for www.quidco.com and www.freecycle.org as well.If you've have not made a mistake, you've made nothing0 -
re. water rates
it does depend where you live as to the general prices, but generally being on a meter will be cheaper for 1 or 2 people plus you get to control how little water you use.
if you move over to a meter and found (for some reason) that it was dearer then you have up to a year to move back to rates again.
if for some reason a meter cannot be fitted, then they will assess you useage as a single person and it would be cheaper than now anyway.
ring up asap, as it will all take a couple of months. hopefully this could save you approx £20/25 a month x0 -
Seems to me that this guy is trying it on - I doubt its even a solicitors letter! I've read another thread where people have lent money to others - they don't get paid and there's abolutely nothing they can do about it. Now I don't suggest you just don't pay him, seems like you're an honerable person and want to pay him back. So I suggest you just tell him that you'll pay the £50 as agreed and do just that. Don't let him threaten you - change your contact numbers if needs be.
Just to play devils advocate - he might have done this because you suddenly just stopped paying and he thought he'd lost his cash and wanted to scare you into getting it back. If you can start repayments now and keep them up without a break, he might just back off. If you can't, then don't panic about it because there is nothing at all he can do about it.
People threaten to tell places of work all sorts - at the end of the day, tell your boss that you're having a dispute with an ex and he's getting nasty. Get in first so he/she knows what might be coming. My brother had a terrible experience with an ex - sent photos of him to his boss (he works at a school). Very embarassing photos but certainly nothing illegal. It was horrible for him to have to explain to his boss that these photos might arrive - mortifying when they did - but nothing happened because he hadn't done anything wrong. I really can't see you getting the sack because an ex writes to your boss saying you owe him money. No evidence, no scandal, just an irrate and unfair ex partner. Seriously, don't worry about that aspect at all.[STRIKE]Total debt 1.11.10 £23,446[/STRIKE]Save £6k in 2015 #129 £6121.66/£6000Save £6k in 2016 #39 £6000/£60000 -
Could it be that the solicitor is a friend or acquaintance "doing him a favour"? As others have said, solicitors will do whatever their client asks of them, along as it is not illegal, as they will be getting paid from their client regardless of the outcome.
Try not to let him get to you, thats what drives bullies on, and thats all he is a bully. You're in the right place for good advice, so keep posting.
Good luck chatting to your boss, am sure they will glad of you giving them a heads up about things and you never know they may be a lot more supportive than you are expecting?0 -

Anyway, get some legal advice. It's unfortunate that you fell for the act and ended up in a relationship with a mad person, but it happens to most of us at one time or another.0 -
Just a quick update to say I have a solicitors appointment on Wednesday at 3pm.....
Also just printed off all his emails about money and he states on 5 different ones about keeping payments at a level I can afford... on one he even said to clear all my other debts before paying him anything.
Fingers crossed.
I am taking copies of everything with me to the appointment and now I just need to work out how to download all the texts to my pc. that way I can print them off and take them too.
Now just off to call the union to see where I stand at work if it does all blow up. I am not going to tell my boss anything until after a chat with the union though.
Thanks again everyone0 -
Good for you! It may be worth asking the union what the impact of a dmp would be on your work - could take the pressure off although have always avoided it myself for the same reason plus a bit of stubbornness!!
no idea re the texts to pc - maybe ask on the techies board? Keep us posted and well done for tackling it!Nerd no 109 Long haulers supporters DFW #1! Even in the darkest moments, love and hope are always possible.0
