  • Blimey DD&D - that is fantastic and so truly inspiring! I have looked at your signature countless times and thought 'I'm sure we could do the same if we planned things better.'

It sounds very much like the problem that I/we have. Unfortunately DH still insists on pay it off tomorrow so he can have what he wants today - since the summer he has acquired a new bicycle (unused so far, he's had it 3mths), an iPod classic (because he 'needed it) and a wii and wii fit system (because he was going to get one he just had to figure out how - cue a credit card.) I know there are people who spend more on worse but even so, we had climbed out of about 20K until last year and now most of it is back on because things 'relaxed' a bit financially with new jobs and less outgoings.

I will show DH your post and start working on how we can deal with our situation 'together' instead of me worrying and him mortgaging our future.

Again you are really inspirational. Thanks you so much :flowers:

Goodness Brila how awful - I am 100% committed to breastfeeding, former doula and breastfeeding counsellor, but I am also human and a mum, and I get horrified to hear some of the Breast Nazis capers!

Some people are just unpleasant. I breastfed until 8 months part from 4 weeks when I had to "pump & dump" due to being on medication. Then, when I stopped at 8mo DS had a lactose intollerance so I had prescription formula while he grew out of it. On normal cows milk now. But some people don't enquire - they just judge. I wonder what some of the bf-nazis would say to mothers with HIV or double mastectomys (sp?), never mind adoptive mothers. Oh well.

Will be using computers at the library - am looking at it postively as it naturally curtails my screen time and DS will get more of my attention. It can be too tempting to hop on and off during the day checking things and I'd prefer to do things with him. I get really sad seeing kids who spend all day in front of the TV unstimulated, but me spending too much time on the computer is much the same. I try to be strict with myself - only when he's asleep - but no internet will keep me under control and I can spend his nap time doing more productive things than pressing refresh! I was amazed what a truly positive effect getting rid of our TV had on our lives, so am hoping for similar spectacular results with no internet!
    On a mission.

On the breastfeeding front - I wasnt allowed to due to health reasons and still was made to feel guilty. I used to feel I was doing the wrong thing, even though I knew I wasnt, all the other mums I knew were breasting. Interestingly, when I spoke about this to them, they said they felt awful breastfeeding in public as they got stared at etc and were almost jealous of how I could feed my boy anywhere without having to worry about being stared at!
  • It truly is awful how mothers are sometimes treated, whatever their choices.
I consider myself a lactivist, but only insofar as I breastfeed publicly, never in a stinky babyroom, and correct misinformation, because there is so much misunderstanding out there. Personally, I couldn't give a toss who stares, their problem, not mine! I am a bit jealous about not being able to leave him with MIL for the night though! ;)
Back on topic, I've been away from MSE for a while, but we need to, and have the potential (finally) to get properly sorted financially. I'm looking around and am not sure what I'm willing to sacrifice, I really need to get back with the MSE-programme!

  • It is taking me longer to get dressed!!!

It isn`t cooler today, temperature wise but it is so gloomy and damp that I felt cold. I normally sling trousers on but need to get into my skirts or they will never get any wear. So now I am sorted with an extra layer under everything but tbh I do like the aldi longjohns, hence the slinging on of trousers. Today I dug out some new :rotfl: (2006) tchibo thermal tights and pushed myself into them, they are very comfortable and I look much smarter. Woollen polo neck, long acrylic skirt, long thermal vest which covers my kidney area, half slip and tights. I must make more effort, says she ;)

all very different to a couple of years ago when I would put the heating on

Yes, but no replies from the admin/mods about that or the rude emails. Offered some empty formula tins (very useful those are too) and got an ear-bashing from people about how I was poisoning my baby (I was breastfeeding, but had some formula on prescription too) and also had a few nutters asking me to send them pictures of myself with various offered items. I think the group has been abandonned and has now run amok with undesireables which in turn has put off anyone who might have a postiive use for it. Never mind. Our local free-ads paper (Friday Ad) is very good for "Wanted" and "Free to Collector" ads, so I use that now.

Sadly brila there are extremists on both sides. Personally I don't care if I see a woman either breast feeding or bottle feeding her baby. If you are getting rude emails, forward them to someone you know and trust and let them tell the fascist and wicked 'people' that are sending them what they can do!

My God, it can be hard enough being a new mum without the milk police being on anyone's case. You do what you can do. I breastfed for three months for each baby - I hated it. My children are fit and healthy! My sil who breasfed for over a year has two children who are everlastingly sickly!

Tell them to f**k off! It is none of their business - I bet their own lives do not stand up to the scrutiny of the perfect.

This kind of thing makes me so mad - and I would expunge the senders of these emails from the motherhood brigade!!!!!!!!!!!

Sorry, didn't notice that it had posted twice - doh!
  • It's strange how attitudes change to and fro.,Back in the 70s when I had my girls the midwives tried to talk me out of breast feeding, they seemed genuinely put out by the inconvenience of having to spend time helping me try.I had to stop when I developed such bad abcesses I developed blood poisoning and needed surgery.I was met with a "well we told you so" attitude.
To any young mum out there, take it from a mother of 3 and grandmother of 5.Listen to your instincts and don't be bullied,it's your baby and it's nobody elses business how you feed your child.
I ended up feeding my girls on the bottle and all my very healthy grandchildren were bottle fed.It has'nt harmed them.
  • But if you do want to breastfeed, don't let people's squeamish attitudes, and unhelpful midwives put you off. It can be very hard work to start with, but there is support out there, and it is so worth it. Especially now at 6 months, it's so much easier, and it's free!
