snow is so pure, white and crunchy. It makes you feel good and it is just lovely to see children and adults in good old fashioned play mode. Nice to have our os storecupboards though so we don`t need to go out if we are a bit older or unsteady. :snow_grin
pure, virginal happiness, a bright spark in a torrid month :snow_laug0 -

...but not if one could get enough "households" to join in a communal order. I guess this is where people in groups such as churches, suitable workplaces, etc have a head start - as it will be so much easier for them to find enough people to join in bulk ordering.
I have pretty much given up trying to organise communal bulk orders for things. Tried to order disposable nappies in bulk (I use washables but need disposables for hospital & travelling) with other playgroup members and mums I know and was generally regarded with suspiscion and even hostility. They didn't seem to realise it was less then half the price in bulk, or didn't care! Tried a similar thing for ecover stuff with people from church - was met with incomprehension and disinterest.
We have learnt (sadly) that round here we largely need to plough our own furrow. On a mission.0 -
We're on the North East coast and it's weird listening to you all talk about snow.True it's been chilly but no rain or snow, just lovely sunshine. Not even needed to consider the heating yet.I'm not complaining though.0

It's funny but I've found that nowadays people just seem to think your'e on the make if you want to try to be helpful. It just seems a sad symptom of our times.People are so used to grabbing everything they can and so when you try to be helpful it's a case of "so what's in it for you",so sad realy.
It's just a total lack of community spirit realy.
Just console yourself with the knowledge you at least tried0 -
Good morning everyone,
Was just reading the last couple of pages of this thread and noticed kittie's post about the joiner and plumber. A trustworthy tradesman is definitely a jewel to be prized.
With all the torrential rain of last weekend, my guttering wasn't coping and the rain was overflowing down the front of my house. I called my "usual" roofer and he came out within 2 hours. Turns out the downspout was blocked with leaves and gunk. He cleaned the downspout and the gutter then offered to do the gutters at the back. :T
When I told him I could only pay by cheque he told me not to bother - I should consider it a PR exercise! :j Now if I could only find a decent gas fitter.

I am glad that you got your guttering sorted out. We are waiting for someone to have a look at our chimney as our new neighbour thinks we are causing a leak in her property becausethe cement around the chimney has worn away.
Have stayed in most of the day and the person did not turn up!!!"This site is addictive!"
