:T Well done wow you've done really well already! Do they still do the Bounty packs? They are useful for samples, vouchers etc.
I found cot sheets were really expensive too so I used to buy sheets in the sales and cut them down to the size we needed. If you don't have a machine to hem them a pair of pinking shears does the job just as well.;)
Right I'm off to round up DS3 for bed he's still bouncing off the walls..literally will check in tomorrow if I can get near a pc :rotfl:

Plenty of time yet! I always find the best time of year to buy secondhand stuff is in January about the time people get their post-xmas credit card bills. Stuff going cheap and less competition to nab it!
Another sneaky thought is to find the best brand new deal and either ask for vouchers for that place (if people offer a gift in advance) or to buy the vouchers off ebay for less than face value - again Janaury is a top time for this. Plus it might be reduced in the Janaury sales. I got my pushchair at the end of the Janaury sales (from well-known overpriced baby shop beginning with "m" and ending in "othercare") with bargain ebay-ed gift vouchers and with ex-display discount as it was "last year's colours" and the shop had to change the display model to reflect the new colours. Not too many miles on a display model AND I got all the guarantees which have been v-e-r-y handy indeed. New pushchair for about a quarter of the "new shop" price.
Plenty of time for cunning wiles!On a mission.0 -
Good idea Brila, i didnt think of getting vouchers off ebay for less than face value
I was a bit disappointed in the bounty packs, got the tiniest bit of sudocrem in the worldBut i did get a voucher for £5 when i spend £15 in baby and/or health and beauty in ASDA - think ill treat my little princess to a winnie the pooh snowsuit and a few sleepsuits next month! - ive heard you get a pack after the birth with a voucher for a free nappy bin - not really needed by myself so ill sell it i think and buy something more practical
Wish we hadnt got sky the other month as we are bound by contract for 12 months but saving us money not buying/renting dvds as we are recording programmes we like throughout the day! So i suppose its ok
Glad to see petrol drop to 99.9p - how expensive is it elsewhere?

Hi all, I have been following thread with intent and it has had lots of great ideas and lots of inspiration. In terms of petrol, it is 99.9p here at the Morrisons in Milton Keynes. In terms of how difficult things are getting both I and many of my friends and colleagues have all commented that here in MK it would appear business as usual in terms of shopping of any sort. I know it is a fairly affluent area, but even so, the last couple of times I have been to the shopping centre it was heaving and plenty of money being spent.0

Here in Macclesfield, even at Tesco, petrol is still £103.9/ltr grrrrrrrrrrr:mad:  . Over in Buxton, (about 12 miles away) it's 99.9p!
It's regularly 4 or 5p/ltr cheaper in Buxton (even though I think of it as the back of beyond!:o ) Fortunately, my OH works in Buxton so has to drive over there daily.........we swap cars every few weeks so he can top mine up over there.
Just 'cos we live in in Macclesfield, they think we're all "Cheshire set" and rolling in it! How little they know...............:p0 -
We are in Blackpool NW and im glad to see petrol under £1 again
waiting for it to go down again before i fill up my tank lol waiting patiently for my morrisons miles voucher - should get one before xmas

Here in Mid Beds I'm between a Sainsburys (8 miles) where petrol is £1.04, and a private filling station (1 1/2 miles) where it's £1.01. No contest, even if I do have to forego the Nectar points!0

oh bother my whole post disappeared. I`ll try again later0

it is 106.99 here in tesco in s wales and more expensive in the smaller garages
I am glad to be able to ride my bike (672miles since july) and notice that lorry drivers are still giving me a wide berth.lol. I did 31 mph going down a steep hill yesterday. People, in general, seem to have got used to the higher petrol prices as there are lots of single user cars about again and lots doing a school run
The younger ones can cope as they have more energy and perhaps this will be the making of more of them in society. Brila has summed things up very well and I have taken what she says on board
re the post christmas credit card blues. Oh I so hope that people don`t get carried away on their credit cards. We only spend < £10 per person (and more on a few clothes for each grandchild) and this has meant that christmas has returned to os style. We started this two years ago and it has made a big difference and no-one worries about presents now and there is a lot more thought in it. I wonder if any folks will get back to the orange and chocolate in a sock etc
I bought a book called `austerity britain` and have read 20 pages. The writing is small and it is 700 pages long but I couldn`t put it down. I also got ellas last war and ellas last peace. So that is me sorted again and back to simple pleasures like snuggling down on the sofa, wrapped in a fleece with a drink in one hand and a good book in the other0 -
Well talking about shops in Milton Keynes still "heaving" - I'm noticing shoppers being more "dubious" about buying hereabouts. I'm counting noticeably less plastic bags full of consumer goods being carried round. One can also tell the price level instantly in shops these days by the attitude of the shop assistants - I feel like taking a book with me to read whilst I wait in the queue to pay in cheaper shops hereabouts these days (as its taking so long to get served) (and my next moneysaving task is to work out to a "T" the quietest times to go shopping in them;) ). In dearer shops its all I can do to get out the door again without a helpful shop assistant virtually tying me down whilst they go through their entire stock of "whatever-it-is" I'm looking for to see if there's one I like.0
