catznine and parsonswife don't forget to make time for yourselves and catz can she cook?? An extra pair of hands may be helpful
Yes she can cook, thank goodness- I made sure of that and she was a willing helper in the kitchen when she was smaller! (Well she loved to lick the mixing bowls when I was baking lol!) She loves telling us that when she was first at Uni and made a bolognaise sauce from scratch, her mates were amazed and one of them said "I thought you could only get that out of a jar!":rotfl:Just goes to show how much of a "learning journey" some of the kids will have to go on.
I have just got a wind up lantern through in the post looks great! Even Mr C is impressed! We have already had a couple of small power cuts! Thanks for the link Kittie, I also bought a couple of wind up/solar power radio torches as well. Our days are happier when we give people a bit of our heart rather than a piece of our mind.

lol. You`ve just got to laugh. My dh is so well trained now that he puts his head torch on for reading when we go to bed. The lantern is great and the little downward single led is excellent for reading and so a wind up should last quite a while. We use the radios all the time and reception is excellent0

Hi all, I have been following thread with intent and it has had lots of great ideas and lots of inspiration. In terms of petrol, it is 99.9p here at the Morrisons in Milton Keynes. In terms of how difficult things are getting both I and many of my friends and colleagues have all commented that here in MK it would appear business as usual in terms of shopping of any sort. I know it is a fairly affluent area, but even so, the last couple of times I have been to the shopping centre it was heaving and plenty of money being spent.
Morrisons in Milton Keynes? Where? I know where Asda & Ikea are (and Next Clearance!) but I didn't know there was a Morrisons. I love Morrisons........................KEEP CALM AND keep taking the tablets :cool2:0 -
Do you know there are some absolutely brilliant, really inspiring, thought provoking posts here tonight...hopefully as many posters have pointed out, it is in times when people are finding things hard going that the true sense of community shines through.
So true. Things are definately getting worse everywhere. We always thought my OH had a stable job. Now he has been told this week that they may go down to a 4 or 3 day week! But funny enough, the big bosses still draw their big salaries. Companies are struggling, big time. Personally I don't mind so much with his angioplasty next month, the extra rest will do him good, but financially it will be harder. It is worrying.
I am stocking up on offers when I see them, things we use anyway.
And I made a list for going shopping this morning and stuck to it.
Trying to squirrel away as much extra money as I can.
happytails: You have the right attitude. :T0 -

Sorry to hear that...hope things go okay for you.
Was wondering whether your O.H.'s employers can actually do that - ie cut his job down from full-time to part-time. I'm not as up on this sorta thing as I used to be - but would have thought one either has a full-time job or one doesnt have a job - and that it wouldnt be possible for them to take away part of his job (could be worth putting a query re this on the Employment Board).
EDIT: I have just tried looking and come up with conflicting opinions on this - the only thing of note so far was a suggestion to someone in the same position to resign and sue their employer for "constructive dismissal" (ie making it impossible for them to continue in the job) - so thats a possibility and the route I would probably follow myself (having got the employers orders to cut my hours down in writing first - to prove they were doing this).
You could google the T.U.C. website and look under the section on workers rights and see if they cover this.0
