Well i think ill introduce myself to this thread and lovely bunch of people that keep giving me great tips to help get me through.

Im Sarah, 19 living with partner in rented accom. We have 3 dogs and a baby on the way - a girl, due 27th Feb :j . I was made redundant but now have a temp xmas job to see me through til baby is due. My partner is close to being made redundant and actively seeking another job in the web development field. We are really struggling, we dont have any debts except our £700 overdraft but when i am on maternity we will really struggle and it will be hard finding a job that is worth doing after the birth of our daughter - with nusery fees being so expensive. This thread is giving me some great moneysaving ideas and im already implementing them into my everyday life!

So, instead of worrying about what we can't change let's at least try to face the future with confidence that we have the skills, the imagination and the ingenuity (and perhaps even the barefaced cheek) to thrive. A least half of getting there is surely believing that we will.

This is what I was trying to say! :T

My mum always tells me that people got through the war years because of a sense of community. Although we don't really have that in the "real world" so much anymore I think that we do have one here in our little virtual world and I guess that is what is giving me the confidence to believe we will survive this.

I know that a lot of you are worrying about your children and I know that my mum is worrying about me and my family too (she tells me frequently). I am sure that they will come through this because of you. Knowing that my mum survived all the previous awful times in her life means that I know I can too. They have probably learned more from you than you think.

Thanks D&DD, just glad i didnt get a car on finance over summer, got my dads '91 escort for £250 instead and it runs alright!

All my friends go out and buy new clothes or go out on a night out every weekend and go to the cinema regularly - all living at home mind no bills, car paid for by daddy etc going out to the cinema is a rarity for us! Even though we get in free as my friend works there - drinks cost a bomb and so does the petrol to get there!

We spent £18 on baby girls clothes this week after finding out we are having a daughter :) and that is it for this month on luxuries - im in a constant state of worry, how i wish i had some savings

Our first car on finance started our 'road to ruin' in fact it's always been cars with us that have added to our debts
Well done on resisting that one:T
There are some really good tips on these boards for mums to be for freebies etc.Are you going to get a few bits in beforehand nappies etc? It might be worth it if you find anything on special offer..but then again I'm such a tightwad now I ONLY buy if its on special :rotfl: thats what hanging around here does to you ;)

    I've been Money Tipped!
Our dd (24) moved back in with us recently (from a house share) in order to pay off some debt. I suspect she will be the first of many youngsters returning to their families. Makes you wonder how this will affect all those who privately rent out houses/flats.

Kittie - you are right it is all happening far too quickly now, very scary!

Parsonswife - I too now have high blood pressure so am restricting how much news I am listening too (and online time too!) trouble is you have to have some info to know how to react!

I do feel that our generation, who have lived through previous recessions, will have a better chance of handling the changes and be able to help teach the youngsters to cope. I do agree though that it isn't so easy as we get older and have more health issues to manage. Best advice is to look after yourselves and keep as fit as you can.
Our days are happier when we give people a bit of our heart rather than a piece of our mind.
