Well here is some news just to chear you all up!....
    http://money.aol.co.uk/water-firms-plan-big-price-hike/article/20081002131336448474951

I for one am over the moon....just what we needed to hear dont you think:confused: Maybe grunge will be back in fashion before we know it _pale_  .

Good Grief!!! Is there a water shortage??? I'd not noticed with all this rain :rotfl:

I'm waiting for the air tax.... you know where you have to pay to breath???

I guess that as everyone else is hiking up prices it seemed churlish for the water firms not to do it! What I really don't 'get' is how foriegn companies can 'own' our water!!!

    Regards

    Kate

Water is one commodity I don't mind paying for here. Dwr Cymru (Welsh Water) has spent months digging up the whole town to replace the water mains. I only found out recently that it is a not-for-profit company (no shareholders) so we only pay what it costs to provide the service. Not that it's any cheaper but at least you get what you pay for. At least they tell us when they are going to turn it off while they do the necessary refurbishments, unlike the electricity company. Two power cuts in two days, first overhead power cables, then underground power cables. The whole lot need relaying as they were installed for fewer houses than they now serve. The water company spends millions every year improving the service, the electricity supplier spends probably the same, patching up a poor network.

Charis, you have nice water too....tastes much better than the filth we get in London... I'd happily pay for Welsh Water :)

Our water was owned by Germans then Aussies...or was it the other way round??? You can bet your bottom Euro that it isn't Not for Profit!

We pay for it, and they can tell us we can't water our gardens

In Scotland the cost of water is added in with Council Tax so I never really think about how much I pay for it.

We are on a meter so pay for every drop we use...we are careful with water and use the water butts in our garden....not that we have needed to for the past 2 years!. I dont know how we are supposed to find more money when my dh is on a fixed salary and hasnt had a pay rise for 2 years. ....not that he might even have that come the new year ask his factory wants to re-locate.
I am a little fed up with utility companys fleecing people for whatever they like whilst pocketing huge profits...all the while the systems in place are rotting away so we have to pay the bill again.

ok I am stepping away from my soap box....
JAN GC- £155.77 out of £200:D FEB GC £197.31 out of £180:o. MARCH GC - out of £200

When I was 10 and moved house I can remember how shocked I was to be told we were on a water meter! It completely baffled me that you had to pay for something (which I thought) was free. I don't know how much we pay, but I like to think I help by having WW style shallow baths on 'in between' days. :rotfl: saying that my sister has a full bath of chuffing boiling water everyday, so hers cancels mine out.

Here's a question! I've just had a delivery at w*rk, massive box for a small box so I've got loads of those air pillows, any idea what I can use them for? other than to roll up into a pillow and use to snooze under my desk.

We are also on a water metre. We are always careful with how much we use but now it looks like we will need to be even more so. May put a timer in the bathroom for the kids showers (maybe they will treat it as a challenge??!!)

Edinburgh for 2008-09, on the council tax bill:

Water £178.20. Felt better when i saw that.

    Then I saw:

    Sewerage £201.33.

So we definitely pay for it!

Still, at least we got great value for money with the sewerage last year...they spread it all over the Forth and made our beaches unsafe.
