Hmmm....says she...trying to summon up nerve to do the door-ringing for pears.....errr.....thinks.....I bet that isnt covered in the etiquette guides. Thinks....do I "dress down" (tattiest footwear, cheapest handbag) or look as "respectable" as possible.....errrr......That wasnt covered in my "manners for minors" Guide when I was brought up...;) :D (Thinks....better not going asking my mother for suggestions on that one.....she's already making comments about "Are you so poor that you HAVE to get your food that way?" when I talk about foraging, closely followed by "You just be careful about what you're eating" and she hands me the latest newspaper article about mushroom foragers having poisoned themselves.)

Your perfect 'look' is Women's Institue Casual Dress Uniform.... Barbara Woodhouse meets Sloane Ranger (from what I see on the website ;) ) Smart enough not to be a bag lady but 'off the wall' enough to go knock on the door in the first place.....

Knock and say you are looking for produce to use in a cooking class, and you noticed they didn't seem to be using the fruit!!! Offer to return some product duly made into jam :D

    LOL!

I think Ceridwen, the way to go is dead posh and eccentric. Tell then you have a simply DIVINE reciped for jam and if they let you have some, then you will hand in a jar of it !
But I personally would enjoy the black balaclava SO much more !

Rightie-o! My "best" voice - ie the one that would do nicely in a crumble with the apples (well - its had at least one person keeling over killing themselves laughing at the end of the phone :D ), striped shirt style blouse, most expensive (ecco-type) footwear and a couple of Green Party badges - sorted! Once I look/sound like some sorta human caricature - should do just nicely for the "Please sir - can I have some more gruel" appeal bit...:rotfl:

Seriously though - that has given me an idea for my local Transition Town group - I cant quite summon up the "nerve" to do it myself personally - but to go out doing this on behalf of a T.T. group - in order to save the householder making any effort to make best use of their "resources" themselves - so that we could have some free food to give out through our food group - now we're talking:D :D. I'm a bit of a "shrinking violet" on my own behalf - but, for a good cause, bring it on there:T

    signed ceridwen

(who is totally shameless by now about just how much of an idiot she looks/sounds on behalf of a good cause! HEH!) (Well - I've not had my mother thinking "Oh my god - whats that daughter of mine up to NOW!" for at least....ooh a few months" - gotta keep my hand in.)

Sorry, it can be hard to see the joke sometimes:o Not that I can ever find that sort of reference funny, after having a family member return home with their head kicked in by scum shouting similar veined comments, it sort of robs you of the humour in it.

Humour, especially of the dark kind difficult to tell on the 'net I agree..... If you heard me ranting in the kitchen earlier this week at the radio about a couple of police officers who'd have been getting medals under different circumstances instead of being dragged through procedures, you'd know I don't really feel that way.....
