Good point Charis - ie the one about the Government needing lessons on stretching the housekeeping by us lot. Right - well I reckon you, Moany Moany and myself between us might just "put the fear of....(summat or other)" into a few of these politicians - the thought of Gordon Brown facing 3 determined ladies like ourselves:rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl: ooh! wouldnt it be nice! - well we can dream.
Guess we'd have to take along Weezl for her diplomatic skills - dont know about you....but diplomacy isnt exactly my "specialist subject";)0 -

OK everyone...no need to panic....
I moved my DD and her BF in with us over the last couple of days....
Yesterday I bought the contents of her food cupboards back - 13 BAGS of supplies including 15K of pasta  So any shortages, rationing. international crop failures - all back to my place for dinner ok!!! :rotfl:
I'd LIKE to be more alarmed, but she's obviously a chip of the old block! :T

Oh my goodness was just thinking, any food shortages and they'll probably be down to us lot on this board. The way we're all stockpiling like it's nobody's business.lol.0 -
Yes I wonder how much money's worth of food is stockpiled in our cupboards? I bet we could all go a jolly few months without buying tinned stuff or pasta/flour/lentils etc.
And washing up liquid i have coming out my ears
If we all stopped buying for a couple of weeks the supermarkets would fold I'm sure.
Maybe Tesco/Asda/Sainsburys etc could pay for the 2012 out of their massive profits. All the Brit athletes could wear 'every little helps' T-shirts,and 'It costs a little' shorts.
Wonder what will happen after it's over, to the buildings?
Maybe we can banish all the politicians to live there out of our way so we can get on with what we do best, running the country in our own homes?

Afternoon all
Well I had to report back... Thankyou to all who helped with my attempt at crochet -I think I might have it now :T .... All weekend I have been huffing n puffing and I came up with what I think was my own pattern - unless there is a stitch called "random wibbly wobbly"..but now I seem to have something fairly neat and even :j ..so I have cast on and done my 1st row of a blanky -wish me luck as its certainly not quicker than knitting -well not yet anyway
-but i live in hope -ooh and thanks for the link to the video help... I was putting my needle through the loop and pulling it through both at once
..that pointed out that i should do hook through loop, wool round needle, pull through then through both afterwards
Who knows - i may have a blanky done for winter
Right back to it i go -before i forget how -6 -8 -3 -1.5 -2.5 -3 -1.5-3.50 -
well done on the crocheting Mrs Mcawber, hang in there, it gets easier and faster.0

Katieowl - our dd moved back in with us this weekend and I now have a larder full of pasta and tuna! So no panic here either!:rotfl: It seems we have trained our dd's the old style way pretty well!;)
I have become addicted to this thread and as a result, have stocked up on warm clothes, throws, candles (we had plenty of those anyway tbh) and have a wind up torch and radio. Still have to look at the cooking options and maybe check our old camping stove.
We too have lived through a couple of recessions in the past when our children were very young and we coped, mainly by being prepared - having a good store cupboard and knowing where the torches were! I agree a sense of humour is essential and faith that it will all work out in the end. I also remember the early 70's and working in London during the 3 day week, often working by gazlight (as in camping gaz lanterns) to do our typing on manual typewriters, a lot of office machinery in those days was manual, gestetner (sp?) printing machines and adding machines had wind up handles.
Madartha - I feel just the same about not wanting to let down my family, as in those that have gone before and suffered far more hardship than us. I feel ashamed of myself if I complain at all really!
Catz xOur days are happier when we give people a bit of our heart rather than a piece of our mind.
