Aren't Warmfront only allowed to do 1 grant thing per house?

Yes but you get up to £2,700. I had a grant for the full amount but they only did loft insulation at the time. A year later when the warm air unit gave up they gave the rest of the grant towards that. I had to pay an additional £500.

You may have some grant unclaimed?

I just wish they would tell me how people who cant afford to pay the heating bills can somehow afford to pay 50% of home insulation bills AND keep warm...

After reading that news article .............. children over 5 can freeze then?? The mind boggles.
It does doesn't it! We do qualify for the cold weather payments because my OH is disabled BUT they take the temperature from the Newcastle weather station which is miles away from us. We live high up (near the pontop pike transmitter for anyone who knows the area) and we seem to have our own micro-climate! It's often below 0 and snowbound up here but above 0 and sunny in Newcastle so we don't get the payment.

It's also daft how it has to be 7 consecutive days below 0 before you get a payment so it could be -2 for six days, 0 for one day then -2 again for the next six days and you would get nothing. I'm sure muppets are running this country, actually I think muppets could do a better job! :D

  • Hiya guys,
been reading through this thread and wondered if I could join you. I live in a listed building, in the basement flat. Planning wont let us do anything, can't have double glassing but can use very expensive firm who can help us with windows ? to make them fit better ?
Need patio doors as big flight of steps to the front of building and on level ground at the back, for security reasons I wanted tip and tilt upv but they refused, have to put in wooden traditional Even though, when the building was converted the back extension has aluminum crappy windows and we have 1972 horrible wooden ones:mad:  Wont let us change the front door although it's horrible stained wood with arched windows very 1980's. Have to use one of those dehumidifier thingy's re damp, were in the basement. Our building is over a hundred years old. All we want is to be warm and safe is that so wrong
Sorry to come here and rant but that GB be exported to Europe after all what good is he here and he just sales us out every time!!!!!!!!!!

  • Jeez........not another teacher strike - I've only just got him into full time school and he seems to be having lots of time off because of stirkes, teacher training etc.

Still no heating put on here yet - I am so determined. Last night I was actually too hot, and kciked the covers off most of the night. Also had a good giggle, bf weighed himself yesterday and hes 14st! lol - he was 12st a few months ago but new medication has ment he has had a huge appetite and he sort of coyly wispered the figure at me and my reply was 'oh well it will keep you warm':rotfl:

Am sat at the minute wondering if I'll be able to put an extra payment towards a bill this month to make christmas a bit easier on us. Or failing that have a total no spend month (besides the bills i pay obviously) to keep the money for Xmas - otherwise we jsut arent goign to be able to afford it. I'm very lucky my wages I get I dont pay tax on as I work under 16 hours but its still hard going and if i work over that I lose alot to tax so its hardly worth it
    Time to find me again

It's starting to wind up isnt it? We all said this winter would be awful and its starting now.
Food prices--they say they will come down, but when you actually read the report it was vegetables they were talking about. I doubt much else will, things have a habit of going up and staying there.
Gas, elect, and coal all hugely increased.
No chance of a wage rise.
And now the unions are quite rightly getting tired of it and talking strikes.
We're lucky to have this forum!!

The problem with strike action, is that the people who go on strike lose pay. Hubby is in Unison and lost two days pay this month due to the strike a couple of months ago. He's thinking of coming out of the union because we can't afford to lose pay, especially if they strike just before christmas.
