What do they class as 'low income?' also still no mention on whether that is for home owners or tenants.
We desperately need a combi boiler as ours just can't cope with the amount of radiators in the house, Warm front said that they would rip it out and replace it with a combi as its not energy efficient and too small for the job but when we told them we were private tenants they said sorry but its the landlords job. I can understand what they meant but as long as its working our landlord won't replace it and we get stuck with ridiculous bills0 -
The whole scheme is a whitewash. Most people who are lower income are in council housing, which has all been insulated years ago. Those who rent privately are at the mercy of their landlords , who might be wary of govt schemes for nefarious reasons of their own.
All my life I was proud to be Scots and never EVER thought I'd be ashamed of my nation--but that little toad has finally done it !!
If we are freezing and coughing our lungs out this winter, I'm sure we will take such comfort from the fact that our loft is insulated !
Off to make a voodoo doll called gordon..0 -
Going back to turkey legs. I use that instead of duck to make Chinese pancakes. It tastes very similar to duck once you've added a bit of hoisin sauce and I buy the Chinese pancakes very cheaply from the freezer in the local weigh and save. Very nice treat for us here.
That's a fab tip! Will def be doing that, duck in pancakes in ds fave, dd1 and dd2 are developing a love of it too, and it is so expensive! Sadly we no longer have a weigh and save place, but there used to be one near my friend, will have to check it out when I next visit her and bulk buy pancakes - it's ok, she already thinks I'm nuts, but she's just as moneysaving as me, just not as food obsessed!GC Oct £387.69/£400, GC Nov £312.58/£400, GC Dec £111.87/£4000 -
and those of us who were careful and saved up to insulate before retirement and who now have to dip into savings to pay the bills will get nowt. I despair. Was it worth being prudent?
This country is well and truly broke and mardatha I am sending you some virtual PINS with very sharp points:mad:0 -
Mardartha - oh how you and your hatchet made me laugh, and AD and his turkey legs - think we shall call our pies Alasdair pie from now on lol!
I was flicking through the papers in my tea break last night and wondering just who would be benefitting from this latest initiative, ha ha, looks like a reworking of an old initiative and not that many people are the answers! I live in a fairly new house, so it has a modern boiler, loft insulation and cavity wall insulation, so we are lucky, but it makes me spit that the government thinks it is doing people a favour offering these things, if they are necessary for new houses, then why aren't they necessary for everyone? Okay I know some houses aren't suitable, but in the main surely it's either necessary or it's not. Still doesn't address the rising costs of fuel though.
Now if us os-ers ran the country how different would things be?
Ceridwen - will pop onto your blog x
Bit on radio 4 about it now - energy watch man wasn't impressed!GC Oct £387.69/£400, GC Nov £312.58/£400, GC Dec £111.87/£4000 -
Our local authority already provides free insulation for everyone...regardless of there status. But as I live in a house built after 1990 I dont need/qualify for this help. I dont be-grudge anyone getting this for free btw. Yet again they have completley missed the point. Loft insulation may help insulate your house but it doesnt pay the bills which are the problem and have gone up so much even that wont help.
Mardatha maybe we should start a club lol!JAN GC- £155.77 out of £200FEB GC £197.31 out of £180:o. MARCH GC - out of £200

Well said madartha and bravobeastie.
I rent privately - £900 a month for a 3 bed semi! and as long as my landlord gets their money every month they couldn't care less about my utility bills.
I honestly can't see them spending any money on insulating the place and I can't afford to, especially when it's not my house and I could be asked to leave with a month's notice.
Thanks for nothing Gordon.Worry is like a rocking chair - it keeps you busy but it gets you nowhere.
