Well said madartha and bravobeastie.
I rent privately - £900 a month for a 3 bed semi! and as long as my landlord gets their money every month they couldn't care less about my utility bills.
I honestly can't see them spending any money on insulating the place and I can't afford to, especially when it's not my house and I could be asked to leave with a month's notice.
Thanks for nothing Gordon.
Same for me here, over £1000 in rent a month and windows that rattle and a electric bill at £108 a month and a oil bill of £100 a month !!! we can also be asked to leave with a months notice and because house are now so expensive to buy and getting a mortgage is virtually impossible the rental market is booming so no shortage of potential tenants if we do complain. Thanks for nothing Gordon0 -

What do they class as 'low income?' also still no mention on whether that is for home owners or tenants.
We desperately need a combi boiler as ours just can't cope with the amount of radiators in the house, Warm front said that they would rip it out and replace it with a combi as its not energy efficient and too small for the job but when we told them we were private tenants they said sorry but its the landlords job. I can understand what they meant but as long as its working our landlord won't replace it and we get stuck with ridiculous billsAnyone who lives within their means suffers from a lack of imagination:beer:

hi all, just to say that I am a private landlord and I like to think that I am a decent one. I'm in the process of completing my tax return form and I can claim back £1500 a year on loft and wall insultation, and lagging and insulation on water boilers and pipes. I was annoyed by this as I had replaced a draughty window and door, but I couldn't offset that as they didn't count installation of double glazing.
Anyway, just a thought but if you think you've an approachable landlord it might be worth mentioning that they can off-set the cost against tax (makes it technically free) as like me, they may not have any idea0 -

Just read this. It is sad when you have to resort to these measures jsut to insure you are warm - dont get me wrong id go without in a heartbeat for my son but thankfully we have always managed to scrape by with pence to our name at the end of the day so that ive never needed too.
Have jsut emailed my local community first to see if they have any sort of charity set up that will help elderly this winter as most of our village is elderly people and even mentioned tat small thigns like giving them fleece blankets, providing behind radiator foil, double glaze for windows etc would all hugely benefit them and make it that little bit warmer for them. Am still waiting to get a reply - have a slight motive being that where i work (coop) have a community scheme that will donate to a chairty, was thinking if they had one i could ask my employers to help out with a grant and then a fiar few would beneift from it even if it was a case of buying as many asda fleeces as i could, lining curtains, putting winodw glaze up for them, even if it means putting a door curtain up or blocking draughts away - every little bit helps im sure.
Was even considering nearer to Xmas buying some cheap fleece and making fleece blankets and letting my little boy go to the nursery home to donate them to some of the residents as his christmas good deed.Time to find me again0 -

Hi Redfraggle, thats interesting thank you. Would that include a combi boiler as we've always said we would be happy to pay half towards it0 -
I've just "sent" an article from "The Times" over to my blog (ie click on my homepage) - being pretty useless at these long links as I am!
Whew! Bit of sigh of relief that hopefully things will get better on the food price front anyways - now about the energy and water Price Rises? If only - we could get a bit of good news on those as well..0 -
