Maybe we oiught to ask Mrs T to give us some of the reputed £1.5 million a year she earns from after dinner speaking.

Mrs t has dementia and I doubt she does much of that these days.....its gordon who has held on to this countries purse strings since 1997 ( labour came into power) when they inherited a healthy economy from the tories so I still think he is to blame....He has wasted billions . After all labour gave the energy companys the power to charge whatever they like. It used to be regulated by the gov so they couldnt overcharge.JAN GC- £155.77 out of £200FEB GC £197.31 out of £180:o. MARCH GC - out of £200

Technically no, but then you can offset all your costs of repairs and replacements anyway, if i was your landlord I would simply say the old boiler broke!
I ahev to say that's very kind of you to offer to pay half, what do you have at the moment? As a landlord I would bite your arm off for that offer!0 -

Its an old Micron 'Glow Worm?'
A combi boiler would such an advantage for us, we offered to pay as we have been with the landlord for some years and have a lot of respect for him, (although he has his moments, but don't we all)
We take great pride in 'our' house, we replaced a couple of fences earlier in the year and repainted the rooms (the same colours as before) as the previous tenant had somehow managed to get all the magnolia walls grubby...and she lived alone0 -
I'm not a thatcher fan, but the sell-off of public companies I believe was started before her time. In fact she was the one who said that there should be no foreign investment in our utility companies; sadly successive governments didn't agree so we are now in the situation where most of our utilities are owned by foreign companies, including our water.... don't throw the string away. You always need string!

No according to the link from The Guardian I gave earlierprivatisation of the utilities was done in her time as PM.
And for who it was who asked, much of the money raised from privatisation was used for tax cuts

I don't think its quite that simple PP but I wont argue as I'm not a particularly political animal!
insert winking smilie here!
The point I was really wanting to make was that foreign investment has put us in a more vulnerable position as far as our utilities go; I remember Thatcher definitely being against that as its one of the very few times I actually agreed 100% with her!insert big grin smiliey here!!
for some reason my smilies arent showing up???... don't throw the string away. You always need string!

Have just put a turkey leg in the slow cooker for later and used my small top oven to cook something else.
DH was at home and very concerned that the oven was still whirring after I had switched it off!(fan oven)
After a bit of discussion of how wasteful I felt it was to have the small oven on for things like rolls or sweet potato cakes, yet not wanting to fry stuff as it was unhealthy- he is slowly coming round to the idea of a Remoska.:j
If I give it a couple more weeks he will have convinced himself it is his idea!!!!;)
I also showed him the article about a possible "winter of discontent" and that has really made him think."This site is addictive!"

Penny ...
That was writen in 2000 and in the last paragraph it sums up the fact that labour turned there backs on re -nationalising utility companies in favour of further privatisation. It doesnt cover what labour have done since.
No matter what has been done by previous governments labour has done nothing to resolve this issue...and that is what really gets my goat.
Blame lies at their door because they have been in power long enough to change things and yet keep blaming decisions made nearly 30 years ago.
I dont give a monkeys who is in power as long as they do whats in the best interests of this country...I have yet to see any politition who fills those shoes IMHO......and all the while people are struggling to make ends meet. Things getting tougher...you bet they are.
I hope you dont think I am trying to offend you in any way because I wouldnt dream of doing that......its just something that really bugs me. xxJAN GC- £155.77 out of £200FEB GC £197.31 out of £180:o. MARCH GC - out of £200

Very true. I remember back in the 70's when my dad went on strike (post office) I went on a march with him. There were thousands of post office workers on the march. Nowadays there are hardly any marches and yet people are so unhappy with things. Are we all suffering from collective apathy? Or is it that nowadays the culture is more selfish? Sort yourself out and don't worry about other people, they have to look after themselves.
I recall the big strikes and marches - if memory serves me, Mrs T ('darn' her to 'heck') was lauded for 'curbing the might' of the Unions - and now look where we are! Her Gov't also sold off the major utilities and most of the Council Housing stock...... I said at the time that these policies were just storing up trouble for the future......The best advice you can give your children: "Take responsibility for your own actions...and always Read the Small Print!"
