"funeral fund" :rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl: - well as someone who is single and childless......there is literally not going to be one single penny there for a funeral fund on me....I'll make sure of it....I will be leaving a fair bit....but every single last penny is to charity.......;)
. After a lifetime of paying out extra tax because of being single and childless.....I shall thoroughly enjoy "sitting on a cloud playing my harp" watching the Government fund a paupers funeral for me...having deliberately left every last penny as I decide!!!:T
I think you might be a bit disappointed from that comfy cloudAFAIK if you leave money (and no provision for funeral expenses) your funeral will be paid for before any other money is paid out. The only way to get round this is to give everything away before you die, and then not die for a further 7 years, or the revenue can insist that the recipients give some of it back. Sorry

Feeling very moneysaving tonight as I got 3 lamb hearts from Mr. M's tonight fo 19p which I have boiled, chopped, portioned out and chilled to feed the cat. 4 Meals ie 5p per meal!
Hiya Valli,
Hope you don't mind me butting in to ask.... is that their usual price or was it a reduced to clear price, sounds like a great bargain, but my nearest Mr M is 5 miles away, so I'd rather not go if I won't get my bargain!

I don`t agree with free school dinners for all and tv licences for all over 65. Who on earth will pay for all this, the long suffering tax payer of course
The scottish government have recently trialled free school dinners in some areas, the trial as now been discontinued probably because it was far too expensive. I am of the opinion that if you can afford to pay you should, but I do have an issue with the way free school meals are provided. It shouldn't be obvious to everyone who is on free school meals and who isn't. I remember when I was at high school and in receipt of free meals us free meals were totally stigmatised. To get our meal we had to stand in a queue to get a token while the rest of the school filed past us getting their meal. Once we had collected our token we moved onto the dinner queue so we were always last to get our meal had the dregs of the dinners and limited choice. Our friends who weren't on free school meals had nearly finished their meal by the time we got to sit down with ours so there was an element of segregation and social stratification. It still annoys me now that we were treated like second class citizens  so I believe that no child should be marked out because they are in receipt of free school meals.
As for people over 65 receiving free tv licence I'd rather the money was spent on ensuring the poorest over 65s have enough money to heat their home and eat. The rising costs of energy and food is really going to hit the poorest hardest and the old and sick are particularly vulnerable.0 -

I have noticed that loads of people use a gas ring that is really too large for their cooking pot. If you use the smallest burner then more of the heat will go into the pot on top. Also if you have just one very good heat conductive pan, then use it when you can, as you`ll be able to set the gas on its lowest once up to boiling
There is a glimmer of a bright sky at last. Thank goodness. So depressing for people this year. Teds vitamin D3 will help, we are taking it now
All my air vents are being closed now and I will have to put the ch on for an hour but I was going to give it a practice run anyway
This rain today will have put paid to any dregs of a harvest this year and I have been reading about the potential disaster  due to the bee population being decimated. Personally, I can compensate for the shortage of fruit that we may experience next year, by sprouting some of my seeds which I have ready in store for such a time. The easiest, nicest and most nutritious seeds are alfalfa and they can be sprouted in a big jar with an old bit of tights on top, held down with an elastic band
Lunch is over now and I love getting back to the old way of having the main meal at lunchtime. This time it was the third day of a chilli I made from 1lb of mince bulked out with aduki beans, onions and carrots. Trouble is that I know I`ll be nodding off while I do some more blanket-making0 -
and I have been browsing the environment agency flood warnings. Click on a map of the nearest warning to you and drag the map around to see how much of the area is in the warning area. It isn`t just the area you see when you click on. There is loads near us but we are high. Hopefully the all clear will be given because we aren`t getting constant rain at the moment. I`ll never complain about cycling uphill to home again0

Anyone remember the old fashioned grocer's with the biscuits all in open tins and that lovely tin on the end with all the broken biscuits? They were all my mum could afford and a real lucky dip.
YES! There was one in the 'general grocers' shop around the corner from us when I was a kid (now it's a betting shop - no earlthly use to anyone in IMO!!!).
I was at St Fagans in Wales a couple of weeks ago and they had the exact same display in their grocers' shop - brought back loads of memories.........The best advice you can give your children: "Take responsibility for your own actions...and always Read the Small Print!"

In that article it states " Consumers have become used to food prices falling year after year. That era has gone and shoppers are having to adjust to higher prices."
Anyone noticed food prices falling year after year? True they haven't kept up with the rise in the price of property but that's just as well or we'd all have starved.
Not to worry though because Gordon Brown has been peeking at his crystal ball and You'll be relieved to know that
"Mr Brown said that Britain stands to gain as the world economy doubles in size once the current turmoil is over."

World economy doubling in the face of "extreme volatility in world oil prices"? Maybe he owns a magic wand too but if he had done he probably sold it along with Britain's gold reserves.
Meanwhile, carry on posting and we'll all stay one step ahead of the rest. There are some excellent money saving tips and recipes on Shirley Goode's website http://www.shirleygoode.com/ including (somewhere recently) one to make your own Bolognese sauce now it has risen so much in price.

Thanks for this Lauren!
Is this at all ADSA stores? Does it have to be a Lenor cap? I looked on their website but can't find anything...I am due to shop this evening, and can pop home on the way to get a cap if it is....The best advice you can give your children: "Take responsibility for your own actions...and always Read the Small Print!"
