After reading through several posts this morning I am feeling guilty. I haven't sorted anything out for winter yet so next job is to make a list (when in doubt make a list!).
* Buy some fleecy socks
* Check everyone's PJ's and buy new if needed
* Buy extra candles, check torches, buy new batteries and box of matches
* Find all the fleeces and wash ready for winter
* Buy extra pasta, rice, flour, etc and make space on a shelf under the stairs to store
* Put linings in DD1's curtains
* Find hot water bottles and covers
* Buy extra trays of OHT milk, tinned toms and beans from Aldi and store in garage
* Check winter coats
I'm exhausted already just thinking about all of this!Books - the original virtual reality.

Savingpennies, do it the mardatha way.read it up, write a plan, then a list, then go off and make a nice pot of tea ...then come back, read some more, crumple up plan & list, write a new one, then off for more tea !0

Hi lindseykim, I home ed my daughter
I told my hubby people were saying theres going to be a food shortage, he had not heard anything about it, i guess it depends what newspapers you read. Cynical me thinks it is just a ploy to keep sales up.
BTW Hovis bread mix is 29p a bag in Asda and it makes a really lovely loaf, the 29p ones are white and granary
Got my sons some fleece pjs from Primark as the evenings are starting to be a bit chilly.
Right - off to make some paper logs!!!Member no.1 of the 'I'm not in a clique' group :rotfl:

Grow our own veg and get things we need off freecycle or second hand or even out of a skip! Mend anything we can before chucking or as we did with our old washing machine stripped it for the metal and traded it in for a few quid lol i even used the drum as a parsnip pot!
All my kids xmas pressies (not a lot) comes from ebay, boot sales or charity shops. I hate having to buy anything new! I knit blankets every summer to keep us warm in the winter and avoid the heating.
I'm 24 and i didn't learn any of this from my own parents i had to pick this all up for myself struggling with money when my first was a baby. I also home educate so i can teach my own kids the important things in life like how to look after themselves. The friends i have left think i'm mad and i tend to get on with all the elder members of mine and dh's families.
Odd that those i know who think i'm mad are the ones who complain about money! :rotfl:
What a sensible mum your kids have! And you are so young! An inspiration!
My kids have also worn hand me down clothes - and why not?Don't put it DOWN; put it AWAY"I would like more sisters, that the taking out of one, might not leave such stillness" Emily DickinsonJanice 1964-2016

Hi All
Well tesco's today in south wales was manic - we've had mudslides here lately so lots of basics were running low but not to the point that they cant be found elsewhere - yet.
Told bf i was going to get dog food today but all the cheap stuff was gone - noramlly theres loads of the stuff and i put the 2 of the cheap doggy meal into an empty giant bag and then use that as a sort of mixer and mix it in with a cheap tin so my poochy gets all the goodness he needs. Today though there was nothing - the cheapest food they had was the pedigree stuff! Anywho - did take the plunge and buy a new big bag of food - £8.50 for a 15kg bag of complete dog food - should last my little jack russell a while and help him stay warm - he can then get table scraps to bulk his dinner out if need be. am already in the process of finding him some jumpers for the winter to help him stay cuddley warm.
Think I will have to start clearing out some storage space under my bed or somethign to start storing some tins, pasta, rice and flour - i already have a small cupboard that ive made a start on but think it will need fillign pretty soon with the way things are going.Time to find me again0 -

Went Shopping this morning. Took Hubby for the heavy carrying.
He thinks I've gone beserk.
We shop mainly at Lidl's as it's just around the corner from us and carries most everything we need. except dog food and our fav. coffee pads. (we are BIG on coffee.. with the Senseo machine don't know if you know it in the UK)
Anyhow... Lidl's sells plain flour for 0,45 (euro) per pack. And they come wrapped in a tray of 10 packs. I picked up two trays. DH looked at me with raised eyebrows.
I smiled at him.
I then picked up a 10 kilo bag of rice and 6 kilo bags of macaroni pasta shells...
he raised his eyebrows even higher.. I smiled. And showed him the price. Told him that last year, a packet of spagetti was 0,19.
Today it stands at 0,49!!!
Told him about the predicted shortage and the enevitable price surges. He shook his head.
I smiled.
I piled in a bunch of tinned veggies..I smiled..
He gave up and let me get on with my business.
I will be bying Oats as well, but Lidl don't carry those. So that will happen next week. I'll just be adding onto the stuff now. Bring a few extra items every week and we should have a nice stock pile for winter.
ps: what do I do when I DO get those beasties?
They keep popping up in my kitchen. Even in closed containers!! I've had to dump too much stuff already due to them!.. open up a container of couscous and out flies the beasties!!..
Where do the come from and how do I get rid of em????
The main storage is not in the kitchen by the way.. so hoping my flour stays out of reach.

Beccatje...
I bet hubbies knuckles are dragging on the floor after carrying that lot :rotfl: .... I give hubby "that smile"..the one that warns him to "leave me alone, I know what im doing"..so he just nods and smiles at me -whilst probably thinking im a total fruit loop
:rotfl:
I have been sat pondering this morning -well stood pondering whilst making bread, roasting veggies and stewing fruit for the freezer..and i have decided that as our new month starts on Monday and i get €450 -plus hubby owes me €50
... I was going to put €400 into my savings account , and just leave out €100 ..i managed on that this month and still have a packed freezer etc :T but i think i might leave keep an extra €50 out to start getting the extras in bits n bobs
... just need to settle on WHAT are my best things to get ..pasta, rice, plain flour (have plenty of bread flour), porridge oats.. pulses, .. im about to scan back through the thread and see what great ideas i have missed
