I've had a phone before now whereby I could see the number calling me before I picked it up - and it wasnt a digital one.
It took my mother a while to get used to it though. We went through the scenario several times of me picking up my phone and saying "Hello mother" and her replying "How did you know it was me ringing?" and my response of "Because my phone told me so" before it clicked with her though:D . Think she thought I'd turned psychic for a while......errr...'fraid not.........not on any consistent basis unfortunately. Damn - thats a possible job change ruled out for me!0 -

QUESTION FOR ALL - I live in a council flat which means - joy of joys - i have horrid steel beams over the windows in my flat so i can drill in the walls. Now I havent exactly got a fortune to spend but i do have a curtain pole to put up - ok i need the holders but my main problem is attaching them to the wall.
Hi sammy not curtains but if you have UPVC windows (which i doubt if your counci is 'owt like ours) you can hang vertical blinds which sit on brackets which screw into the top of the window frames
or
Hand curtain track higher/wider than lintel if possible
or
Extendable sit in the recess net type thing
or
Paint the window ........................only kidding :rotfl: :rotfl:

omg I see that water bills are about to go up now. One thing after another. The talk is 40% over 5 years0

Back to washing our clothes in the stream I fear kittie. Here in Cornwall we pay one of the highest water charges in the country already, as we are paying to keep our wonderful beaches clean, as well as for our own water consumption. That coupled with the fact that generally, we earn the lowest wages in the country.......well it just ain't fair!Away with the fairies.... Back soon0

Speaking of water bills, if you use a cesspit or septic tank, check that you're not paying for sewerage with the water company.
We have a cesspit and it took us a long time before we realised that we shouldn't be paying for sewerage as well!0 -
On the subject of curtains:
Just been visiting MIL and noticed that she hangs another set of curtains in the window recess using net curtain wires. These are in a dark fabric and denser than nets but not heavy.......seemed like a really good idea to give extra warmth in the winter and also to cut light in the bright dawns of summer. On the outside of the recess normal curtains hang.
I am definitely going to do this myself as the fabric is not heavily gathered and will therefore be fairly economical.0 -
Re the water increases - I heard it as 3% p.a. over the next few years. Will have a further listen out to checksee what the figure is.
I've got myself a water butt now and am using the water from that wherever possible - my handwashing now gets rinsed off with water from this (as well as watering the plants).
Right - must go and catch up on the news Russia and THAT oil pipeline to the West wise. Caught glimpse of America yelling the odds earlier today and now thinking to myself "Oh - DO SHUT UP America" and wondering whether somewheres along the line we get a very abrupt Powerdown to less oil around (same as Cuba did). Oh well - Cuba managed fine from what I can make out - so we will too (lesser of 2 evils - I'd much rather have a very abrupt Powerdown if America will stop "shouting the odds" threatening yet more darn conflict in the world).0 -
