Tesco Internet Saver - registration process broken?

Hello

I received a letter from Tesco Personal Finance today, to say my Internet Saver account has finally been opened.

But when I tried to register online, instead of being given a Customer Number, it throws me straight onto a log-in page.

I can't get through to a real live person by phone to report the problem, and none of the phone menu options are appropriate. Even if I choose an incorrect option to try to speak to someone, the first thing that happens is that I am asked to enter my Customer Number!

Anyone else having the same problem?

I opened one of these when it was posted on the weekly newsletter a few months ago and have finally given up, got my money back and closed the account. I had been through two registration codes niether of which worked and the last phone call I had with their customer service the rep said all she could suggest was sending me yet another registration code. I work in IT and bank online so I don't feel it was just me being dumb. I felt my money was going into a black hole as I couldn't log on to check balance etc. I've now put the money into an A&L ISA but again they said to get 3% I had to have an online a/c or it was only 0.25% for a branch operated a/c.

I had the same experience of Tesco PF as Mrs T. I managed to close the account before the end of the trial period, and moved the money elsewhere. It is a pity, as it was a decent paying account, but the customer service was diabolical, and I couldn't be doing with it.

Customer services can give you your customer number over the telephone, but the process itself still has a long way to go.
You need to receive a registration code and then log in. However, it is necessary to order a card reader to be able to make transfers out of the account, which took me over a month!
If you can put the money into another account with a SIMILAR rate of interest, DO IT...

How long did you have to wait from your online application until your account was opened? I've been waiting 8-9 weeks so far.

It took me 6 weeks. 2 registration codes and a load of phone calls. Perhaps I was one of the lucky ones
    Wins since 2009 = £17,600

    MANY THANKS TO ALL OPS

I got my letter yesterday (after 5 weeks) and I had some trouble finding registration page. What I had to do is go to the main TPF website, click Login in the My Accounts box in the top right, then click the 'Register now...' link in the Accounts & Policies box on the next page. That should take you to a page asking for your customer number etc, but on the right there is a 'Register now' button. On the next page click the button saying 'No I don't' (have a customer number) and you should be able to register.
  • HI guys,

Same story here as Mrs T. I also work in IT (internet banking no less!) and found this savings account the worst i've ever seen. Whoever designed this should have been sacked long ago. The convoluted and lengthy process of actually getting to login and look and see if your money is even there is ridiculous. The whole signature form fiasco defies logic. I went through 5 different signature forms before getting a registration code that worked.

Additionally Tesco claim email is 'not secure' and do not offer any other facility to contact other than phone, so you are forced to call their pricey 0845 helpline again and again, wait in queues for ages, still to be told that you need to sign another letter! A disaster.

As others have done, I also closed the savings account and in fairness received a cheque (why not bank transfer??) quite quickly. The lady on the phone when I called sounded quite beaten down and said my call was very common and they have been passing on all complaints about the process and the web site itself to Tesco powers that be. I think even they know their system sucks. What worried me was needing the money in a hurry (by which i mean within a month!) and not being able to get to it as they make it so difficult for you. I needed more peace fo mind than that, so despite a good interest rate I bailed out.

Funnily enough met an old friend this morning and he has just got a job with TPF on their web team! I obviously filled him in on the customers views, maybe he will take that on board!

good luck! if you are thinking of this account I wouldn't bother - your hair looks better on your head than in your fists!

  • I must admit Tesco has been the most complicated and long winded process to open an account that I have ever experienced.

Took me months and not sure if I will add to the £1 I opened it with!
  • I too have been waiting weeks to register my account. I sent my deposit chq off 16th Jan and it hasn't been cashed. Is it worth bothering with I ask myself??

I can't believe that TPF haven't sorted this fiasco out yet!
