    Yes, they have been hopelessly unable to cope with the account-opening process efficiently.

    But the interest is decent and they are brilliant at using Faster Payments. Instant transfers in and out (provided the other bank also uses FP).

    Use the phone if your card reader has not arrived: 0800 406050.

    Oh: they've recent reduced their rate to 1.5% (+ bonus of 1.5 if you opened at the right time so = 3%).

    FP means same-day transfer to my Nat West e-savings which is now better at 3.24% incl bonus.
  • To add my 2 pence worth :- started application mid November 2008 and still no card reader to be able to use A/C. So I asked does the bones rate start when the A/C up & running properly, I will leave you to guess what the answer was.

    Checking out the faster payments with a little transfer and then am going to get sorted. What a palaver!

    Coudn't believe it my card reader arrived 19-04-09 Thats over FIVE yes FIVE months to open & be able to use a savings account with TESCO. No wonder they make so much Profit. Can anybody beat this ? :eek:

    Hello - this is my first posting on here - so please bear with me.

    I opened a Tesco Internet Savings Account in October 2008. Didn't have any real problems opening it but did have to write to get my clubcard points added though.

    I've figured out that transferring from the Halifax is quicker as they do faster payments - so can get money in straight away. I just can't get it out.

    My problem is adding a payee to get some of my money out. I have ordered a couple of Tesco card readers & not received one yet. But I did receive one from Nat West within a week of ordering.

    So - armed with the Nat West card reader and my Tesco card and pin I have managed to enable the card reader (had to ring Tesco as I was reading too much into the instructions) & even managed to change the pin.

    BUT - I still can't add a payee - I go through the whole process and at the final step just get a message about the service not being available at the moment & to log off & try again later.

    After several tries from my works computer rang Tesco & they said that I was doing everything right but that the security at work seems to be blocking my request & to try from home - if it doesn't work from home it is probably because my computer is too slow!!!

    Guess what - got the same message at home as well.

    Has anyone else had this problem?

    I know from reading others that I can ring up & transfer but I don't want to have to ring them every time to ask - that's why I like internet banking.

    Any ideas would be appreciated.:confused:

  • hi ive just spent 30 mins on phone getting nowhere . ive been locked out of my account again cant transfer money pay bills or even see balances this has to be the worst banking system anywhere £27000 tied up that i cant access they insist that it must be me inputing wrong imformation , this is 3rd time this has happened i dont have problems with any other internet accounts spoke to them on saturday and they said new reg no would be in post received it today still does not work they say wait another 5 days and they will send another and it may work it may not my question is how the hell do i close this account and get my funds transferred.

    As you're unable to go online, ask them to arrange the transfer for you over the 'phone. You can also request a closure over the 'phone, but I'd make sure your funds are transferred elsewhere before you ask them to close the account, because they have a habit of sending a cheque on closure.

    glad to read i am not the only one. tesco savings are a shambles. cannot access my account, cannot get security codes to work. my advice is AVOID at all costs - as soon as i can get into my account i shall close it.
