To be fair (morning all) the poor man hasn't got many folk to choose from.......

Picked two giant tubs of rasps and given one to a neighbour....I had a word with the chickens - well to be fair I had several words with the chickens - I am not sure we have consensus regarding resuming egg laying, however, I noted my assurance with them that they were entitled to a peedie holiday but it would be nice if someone started laying again!

They did seem mildly interested after I kicked them out of their house (they are hiding in the hen house at the moment) and I did have lots of lovely leftovers for them.........

Although the rasps are a lovely treat - I do need some lovely fresh eggs as
I feel a pavlova coming on - its one of the few puddings I like :)

Have chums comign for dinner. (Chicken fajhitas)

Away to yesnaby for a walk on the cliffs - which will be nice http://www.orkneyjar.com/portfolio/scenes/yesnaby/

    Fried breakfast also :)

I hope I like teaching. I am confused by the dyslexia thing - I do feel like a bit of a fraud - OH and I were talking about it today - its odd to be diagnosed, but many things make sense now. But, I am still wondering if they got it wrong - or I am just lazy or if there is something really up (make sense?) I generally do think things in a bit of a different way. I correct as I go - I am more concerned about the lack of direction I have been given (or is that me offloading) I figure if someone actually 'showed me' what to do with my literature review, I might manage it OK surely?

    Confused dot com here.

Although the more books I read (I have 5...ahem) on dyslexia the more things make sense sort of.

I guess I am scared of being lazy rather than being dyslexic - as dyslexia is just a differnt way of thinking (well so I have read so far) and laziness for me is probably one of my main sabboteurs - I've been confused most of my life though...... :)

DD has indeed eaten the birthday watermelon.

She's gorgeous and a little insane in a nice way. I love that shes so self assured and confident (mostly) and is so random she's brilliant and a breath of fresh air.

No - I am not remotely jealous of where you live - ok I am - those pics are stunning. Really missing the fresh air and the great outdoors. The urban park really just enough - I want to be near water.

Don't let yourself think that your dyslexia is because you are lazy - you most certainly are not. I am exhausted by your thread sometimes. Don't forget you have this amazing talent and passion - all things plants.

I know that your knowledge would be fine with the horticulture class - why don't you give it a go - if you go along this year you can think about whether you want to. It could also give you a safe space to maybe run a class or two to really help you make up your mind.

I've got someone coming to see the spare room - not sure I want to rent it out. I like having my space to myself. Will take longer to get to the debt free date.

Ah Fay, give yourself a talking to as well as the chickens! You are NOT lazy :) Not at all, and certainly not a fraud!

I'm sure you'll be an excellent teacher :) How much of it is actually presentations anyway, and how much talking?? Once you've done it once or twice you'll be laughing :)

Yesnaby (or YesNoMaybe as me and a mate got to calling it when we were up there...) is gorgeous, although I was a little scared when we were there... The bloke from Julia's cafe in Stromness gave us a lift up there one day, and it was lovely. The next Christmas we hired bikes (!) and cycled there from Stromness, it was so so windy!! Mr Daffs' scarf blew off across the cliffs, he went tearing off after it and the bike started blowing away! :) Cheery times...

I'm still working on the Let's-Move-To-Orkney plan... ;)

Hope your chickens start laying soon!

Aw what colour is vera - and does she like beaches - its a must for darwin before he will ever consider a date?

Darwin is a baby he's only 21 (DD reckons that in camper van years that makes hiim 88)

But we can formally introduce them and see what happens given some time :)

Vera is an old ( sorry mature ) 37, but she has been lowered ( severely ) and has a much bigger engine.......would Darwin like 'twin 40's':D.....carburretors, that is!

She is a 'flip-flop' metallic burgundy, which burns orange in the sun, with gold wheels and roof..........sounds a bit of a loud old tart!

She is used to supporting herself though, Weddings, Party Transport etc:T
    :D:D stay wonky :D:D

....one-way ticket to Portugal booked !

    Other problem with teaching is

I get all tongue tied around people and am generally a bit pants

I can babble on paper - but in real life talking about things, presentations etc

    I suck

    Big sytle

Teaching is not about presentations. It is about devising activities to help people to learn. The more fun the better :D

Dawn thanks for that - I am going to try my hardest to enjoy it - I love my subject and I loved being taught at the Botanic garden as everyone had such passion. And of course I do like fun :)

Cheery daff - I so know that walk and it really made me smile to read your post - I have not lost a scarf yet but almost several hats many times - tis a gorgeous walk - no puffins though......

Urg - I know what you mean about lodgers - so I hope it went OK. OH here today and there were people in and around the house - just a bit odd today but normally I have to say its not too bad, but I may have been lucky.

I am using hte lodgers money to live rent free and chucking the money really seriously at my debts - so from that point of view its really really handy and the benefits of this in the short term to my debts is amazing. Longer term I know that I will probably live on my own with OH and kids but for now - the lodger bit is working out for us OK. Although OH said today out of hte blue he was thinking of when he (we) buy - it will probably not be in Orkney - so if we get a good place in the highlands we can use it to holiday let before we live there permanently in 5 years or so......so from my point of view he seems to be embrassing the reasoning behind making the most of an asset........hope its ok - and yup its a bonnie place here we are very very lucky. Sometimes I forget and need reminding of how lucky we are.

Fingers crossed for you either way

Pepe - your post made me smile, Darwin is a bit tattered and not really as gorgeous sounding as your van - but love the sound of her...............He wanted to text her hello.........seems to be the way the kids do it these days...........xx

Thanks to you all for listening to my odd babble, kids away and tis a bit odd in the stripey socks household - although todays socks are gingham checks instead of stripes.......OH tries his best :)

Managed to persuade OH to eat lunch 'in at home' today rahter than go out - which was moneysaving........

I also dug out about um 15 clumps of lady's mantle - Alchemilla mollis from a friends garden which is sitting in 4 boxes in my garden now ready to be split up and planted - I love it as a cut flower and this garden didn't have any - so we are trading a few plants for some garden advice and plant design stuff.

Great to talk about gardens again with people, I am to help design a plant list for them - and htey are slowly but surely getting their garden sorted out - the most awesome thing is that the garden is mainly being done from local stuff, recycled material and we are going to look at plants this week at one of thier parents houses with a big garden which we can split and take plants from. Its nice to be doing this kind of thing again - I do miss it and try to do a garden for someone a year if I can - keeps my hand in.

Thank you all for the encouragement - I mentioned hte chance to do some teaching with OH who is delighted and thinks its really time to start to think about what I WANT to do.

And picked about 4 tonnes of rasps yesterday and froze it into pots for making jam later in the year - affter making a giant humungous home made pavolva - with a half raspberry topping and one half banana/chocolate toppings - easy peasy and looked ace - its one of the few puddings I like and find easy to make......

Oh and yup we decided its about time we did the dirty deed and actually got married - one DIY wellie wedding coming up.

Aside a licence - (? which is how much - off to google that) - I wonder how much a DFW wedding might cost - I have a frock or two in the cupboard - I have 5 pairs of wellies to choose from. A garden full of flowers or I can surely grow some..........we have a darwin for the bridal car.....................................OH is determined to be married before he is 40 - that gives us 11 months to figure a plan and do the dirty deed :)

And Unix - aren't you getting married very very very soon my dear. I hope the plans are going well and the family is more settled? x
