The revenge of the stripey socks - a DFW adventure

Just chipping in again Fay, and totally agreeing with what others have written, very eloquently. I *so* admire your pursuit of the stripey socks life choices.... Robert Frost wrote a wonderful, wonderful poem that summed up some deep, intuitive life choices. Glad your OH has sent you such a supportive text. You focus, quite rightly, on yourself and your kids, and your brother is *not* owed anything by you - you've already given him more than he has any right to. Aargh, I feel like I could write so much on this ... please take it as read that your friends on here are completely supportive of what you're doing - not just cos you're on here and he isn't, but because we agree with you!

Tis very true - Troglodyte you have hit the nail on the head - whatever I give won't be enough and everything somehow will be my fault! He doesnt deserve the gorgeous girl he's with but she adores him so somehow or other I figure inside there must be a lovely guy......
My sis (yep there are lots of us) only ever asks me for money - what is it about this putting food on your own table and caring for your kids that seems to make you somehow 'richer' than them?
I haven't heard from my Sis in 4 years - she's obviously OK - Last time I saw her (another funeral we only ever see each other at funerals these days .......very sad he) she told me I was still fat (hey ho its a normal thing to say to someone, we had bets on it took her 28 seconds) - I omitted to reply that she was still looking like a 'haggered 4-stone freak'. Apologies ot all you skinnies out there
I did try to 'bond' with her - must be something about turning 40? and just ended up less well off with various promises to take her children for extended periods of time whilst she had a 'break'.
Call me old fashioned but I kinda like my kids.
Pah, i am always falling out with my siblings mainly because i refuse to take sides and then get the blame for something i didn't sayMy sister is very good at twisting things, but these days i just let her get on with it and refuse to comment. The good thing about getting older is that we can retire gracefully without having to justify ourselves, that is my stance now as the eldest:D:rotfl::rotfl:
For what it's worth, i agree with the others about your brother too...let him wallow in his own decisions:DBlackadder: Am I jumping the gun, Baldrick, or are the words 'I have a cunning plan' marching with ill-deserved confidence in the direction of this conversation?
Still lurking around with a hope of some salvation:cool:0 -

Hi Faye, can I ask where was your brother when you were going through a divorce, moving and generally having a very hard time of it? Please don't let him emotionally blackmail you. Yes be there for him but let him stand on his own 2 feet.

it's a good job i'm hundreds of miles away as i'd be slapping him on your behalf after saying you owe him after 25 years. Are you his parents? I have to admit i'd seriously consider storming up there and giving him what for but it may be a bit extreme. It's funny how family members think no one is as hard off as they are or had as hard a life as they have.
It used to bug me no end when people assumed i had more money than my sister and her hubby because they had a baby. Guess they didn't factor in he earnt more than i did, my rent was more and most of the other costs were pretty much even cept petrol which cost me a darn sight more as he walked to work and i travelled 20miles each way.0 -
locked in my study in my pjs working

thanks chaps - LT don't storm up here it is a long way from your neck of the woods, he'll be on the mainland again soon
Um L you do have a point - at that point I was being 'independant'.Total debt 26/4/18 <£1925 we were getting there.

even if you were being 'independent' he could have offered to help or just forced his help onto you.0
