The revenge of the stripey socks - a DFW adventure

Well the desk is now by the door and the boys put the bench on the balcony on sunday too so its nice to sit like today with the door open and listen to it all - and feel as if you are almost out there
Purple colour is lovely isnt it - til its cooked
I have to confess to finding it very odd not to be shopping. Lets face it I have a cupboard full of food, a garage and two freezers full of food and we are only 10 days til the end of the month - we dont NEED anything. Feels a bit odd.Total debt 26/4/18 <£1925 we were getting there.
Total debt as of 28/4/19 £7867.38:eek:
minus 112.06 = £7755.32:money:

Orkney is an archipelago of 70 or so islands and currently 21 of them are inhabited. - Freecycle thus far I think just works here within all the inhabited islands but I wouldn't mind betting if someone in Shetland or Caithness wanted something, somehow or other it would get there I got my hens from another island here called Rousay, I got plants from Hoy and some lovely wood etc from one of the inner isles. People are great at sticking things on the local ferrry or dropping things off when they are in townWe now live in Kirkwall - but use to live in the sticks - the driving got me insane and to be honest the cost was horrific - for now we are in town but the gardens so big you hardly know you are in town, we are very very lucky.
Ok - Orkney is 100,000 hectares 53 miles long by about 23 miles wide - about the size of Fife? - 20,000 people - and they said on yesterdays freecycle email that we now have 1000 members which for this size of population is amazing. But our local radio station had a bruck programme where folks could get rid of stuff or swap it and I think that might have had a bit of impact on that not sure though.

I never mumble on about it too much don't want to bore you all rigid - mind you its probably more interesting than my debts and my socks :rotfl:
4 ferry companies
15 flights a day from our airport (all to scotland except one daily one to Shetland and one to Norway in the summer)
In summer its so odd as it hardly gets dark
The wild life is amazing and the scenery stunning
Sometimes its a bit windy but it blows away the stoor
Hardly any crime, a few trees but not much, no chain restaurants, mostly only local shops really except 3 supermarkets and a Boots and a MacKays.
Low level of unemployment economy here is quite vibrant (Tourism last year netted £26million, Agriculture about £25 million and then theres the jewellery, the food industry etc etc etc)
Bored yet - oh yeah and I have a very nice spare room with a lovely new bedTotal debt 26/4/18 <£1925 we were getting there.

The bed looks great Fay, what a bargainous find.Blackadder: Am I jumping the gun, Baldrick, or are the words 'I have a cunning plan' marching with ill-deserved confidence in the direction of this conversation?

Peedie update
Well not much happenning on the old monetary front - when you have none it dont move much eh/
To my amazement meal planning is working - not that I doubted for a second but hey ho. Pork chops tonight yummy - who is this clever person who sorts out all this lovely food again - oh yeah that be me!
Grocery challenge is still under budget 26 spent - out of 50 - again to my amazement - we really dont NEED anything which makes it easier and we still seem to have about 25 loaves of bread in the freezer and 8 ltrs milk never mind the meat and meal stuff in the other freezer so really its only fruit and veg again next week.
Wondeirng how much I can cut May shopping back by - there are surely enough teas etc for a month in both freezers - the children and I are going to get the calender out and meal plan for May soon - the saved money can go to the trip to dads or more likely to the next 6 month shop fund. (?)
Had an email to see if I can do some cooking for someone for a week - not sure I can but thinking of emailing back and saying - can't come and cook for a week but can fill your freezer for the week for you (they have chums coming up and I cooked for them last year - I didnt serve them just prepared it all for a few hours during hte day for them to serve later on) - no harm in offering - I mean I am batch cooking already at home. The stuff they want is a bit posher but not exactly hard work.
On Saturday we are having a walk in the botanic gardens followed by cocktails at Harvey Nicks and then an italian - suspecting not cheap (best not factor in the flight costs) - need to book that today - gulp.
May must be a less expensive month.

To recheer myself up - think postive stripey thoughts!:D
Sorry feeling particularily grrr ishtowards ex today - he's now 'not helping' towards DD trip to Ed to west side story - why do I always hope for the best when he says he will help - ???????
I have paid for it all of course in January - hoping somehow or other the promised cash will turn up. DD oblivious of course shes delighted she is going and thinks we are both paying - (nice new) OH is just resigned to the fact that my silly ex doesnt give two hoots - but somewhere in there is the man I married - even if I don't recognise him anymore.
Keep hoping for the best and one day folks will deliver...:)Total debt 26/4/18 <£1925 we were getting there.

MP he's out in the car a bit soggy not speaking to me! Love that doggie thing though ta!! xx
Sorry for the moan this single parent lark isnt funny sometimes - you get to be mum and dad and the chancellor of the exchequor with a seemingly limitless supply of cash.
I know I get the better deal being with the kids but sometimes someone (Ex) actually doing what they say they will would be nice.
Its only £100 extra to find - (trip is 200 with spending) but sometimes I wish he would cut me some slack - oh no what a moany old grot bag I am..........
You are right
think good things.
