Thats great Piq! I take it it was a bad accident? I had a really bad accident a few years ago too, my right arm got most of it. I have various little gadgets around the house to help out. Including a stand for my hairdryer so my arm doesn't tire which it does easily.

It was, just a bit. I was jumping someone else's horse as a favour. It spooked as it took off at the jump, I fell off and it fell on top of me. I broke my right shoulder, elbow, wrist, hip and ankle - unfortunately, most of the breaks were messy - hence my description of turned myself inside out. Most of the inside of me was on the outside  I'm fine now, just have a little difficulty twisting my arm and raising my shoulder and a fear of jumping on a horse. This is a great shame for my horse as he loves jumping and doesn't understand why we don't do it anymore. Luckily there is always a queue of 15 year old girls willing to play with him! But he always tries to nudge me towards any jump he sees in the hope that I might have changed my mind....

Piq - great news (apart from the air ambulance bit)

WAVING FURIOUSLY BACK THROUGH THE DRIZZLE - AND THE RAIN.

Just out of meeting - so will catch up properly later.

It is great news! I will hire a shredder thingy and buy lots of pizzas and boxes of wine. Have masses of containers for courgettes, tomatoes, peppers and beans. May have to buy them ready grown as I don't have seed trays etc. Maybe next year for self grown, bit too daunting for this year!

Waving back with the sun on my face :hello:

Piq, do your joints still give you trouble? Mine do if its cold or damp. I got fed up being spaced out my brain on painkillers and found a herbal alternative. Devils Claw gel from Holland and Barratt, fab stuff and really helps. I smashed my shoulder, wrist and hand and badly bruised hip, arm and ribs. I was a bit sceptical this gel would work but it does. Don't let price (its about a tenner) put you off as you only need to use it sparingly.

I can't lend you a shredder (I have a couple) - but hiring isn't too expensive. And, depending on what you want to grow I can probably post you a box of seedlings or mini plants - let me see how I get on with my seed trays - there is ages yet and I am growing loads to sell anyway so there will be plenty extra.

inside out - ergh - sounds horrific.

I will stick to riding BRB

Sunny here yesterday maybe that was it for the year.

Back to my willow writing - catch you all later on.

Then I go to a talk tonight on renewable heat - - :D

This all sounds good! Except for the riding accident, which sounds horrific_pale__pale__pale_ I've just been outside to sit in the garden while I drink my afternoon coffee, and the soil on the outside of the veg patch, which is currently just bare, has cracks in it already  I wonder if it'll be a hot summer [wistful tone here....]
2023: the year I get to buy a car
  • fayjmck wrote: »

They suggested £100-150 for the week (plus petrol, extra to the insurance and a clean afterwards)- what do folks think of that?

Seems alot to me for something that would just be sitting there?

I want to say don't be silly - but one pal pointed out that it would help cover tax/insurance/upkeep.

if nothing else its money (to put aside) to put to Darwins next MOT, that you wont need to find .
If they had to hire a car for a week how much would that be ? , so its a good deal for them and for you to I think .

    Morning Fay :hello:

I may take you up on your kind offer of advice once the gardens chopped back and cleared. I'll send some photos and dimensions. In return, in true bartering fashion I will send you homemade jam!

I actually know a fair bit about flower gardening as my grandmother was a keen plantswoman and I was allowed to carry her trug! She taught me a lot without me even realising it.

I've got a large patio area that would lend itself very well to being a semi ornamental vegetable garden. This would probably be phase two of the garden rehabilitation though:D

  • HI HP

Ta for that - hard to be so black and white about it - but on the other hand if they feel happier to use it again and he gets more maintenance work done on him I guess its a win win.

He's 21 - so the maintenance bit is bound to creep up.

Room mate seems a bit perplexed at a proper lease, money upfront and a deposit.

Have been brave and stood my ground and said these are the terms - scary though.

    hope all well today

    Todays Lesson:
Old clematis stems are surprisingly similar to old lavender stems :o.

The lavender needed hacking - instead of releasing a delicious sent when I brushed against it, it was taking chunks out of my legs. Got the lopper out..... you can guess what happened next.....

Still, what doesn't kill you makes you stronger :rotfl:...... (as long as I haven't killed it :o) and it did also need pruning (although maybe not quite so harshly :)).

You see what happens when I read this thread & get inspired to do some gardening . Am seriously thinking of building a small raised bed to grow veg. Goodness knows what havoc I'll create ;). Any tips on what I can build it with cheaply with minimum of skill?
A positive attitude may not solve all your problems, but it will annoy enough people to make it worth the effort
