Can i legally avoid a Speeding fine/points?

Some speed limits are badly thought out, just like some road layouts are badly thought out, nothing is perfect, there'll always be areas where a high speed would not greatly heighten the risk to anyone.
At the end of the day though, if you've been caught then unless you're looking at a ban, it is wise to just cough up and carry on living. Even if you have a valid case you will normally fail in any case at the magistrates, plus you have several hours of preparation, two court visits to attend, etc. Then it's normally a case of appealling to actually get a fair trail (the joys of the magistrates..)
For example, the van in question is supposed to (according to ACPO guidelines) only take readings that are ten times further away than the height from which the picture is being taken. So if the bridge is 15' high then you should have been a minimum of 150' away when caught. But, these are GUIDELINES only. They are there to try and ensure readings are reliable, but if you try and argue this point you will lose and have to appeal to try and get and reaonable doubt cast on the readings.
If it means so much then go to pepipoo for advice on how to go through the process, but in my own experience, it's best to leave it unless you're desperate.matched betting: £879.63

As above, surely the antiscamera/speeding brigade don't agree with every limit in this country?
I bloody hate the way NSL A roads are being reduced to 50mph.0 -
Why should some break the law and try and find ways out of it ?
We live in a civilised , democratic society , breaking the law isnt allowed
Why`s it so hard for some people to get their head round ?0 -

I am sure many people question speed limits on some roads.
Doesn't necessarily mean that people ignore them because they disagree with them0 -
You got caught speeding, so pay the fine. You were way over the limit for 60mph speed limit.0

Yes, it quoted 74mph. I don't think it was anywhere near that, i saw them pretty quickly and slowed right down.
This makes me laugh. If they got you at 74mph then ok it may have been out. But 14mph out? I doubt it. That's what it would had to have been out for you to not have committed an offence. So let's assume they were out by 14mph and you were doing 60mph. Happy days. Except, hang on a minute you say here that you "saw them pretty quickly and slowed right down." Which says to me, the gate and lamppost that you were just prior to when they got you going even faster! Man oh man. Just take the hit. Call it retribution for all the times you've sped before and never got caught. Maybe it will actually encourage you to slow down in future and who knows that could mean a life that may have been lost is saved. Kismet fella. Everything happens for a reason, so think on.Yes, it quoted 74mph. I don't think it was anywhere near that
It probably wasn't anywhere near that I'm betting you were going a good deal faster and that you know it.CHEAP doesn't mean ETHICAL0 -
Good link. :rotfl:If you lend someone a tenner and never see them again, it was probably worth it.0 -
Well i'm flatterd by the number of replies so thanks.:T
I just feel that the government get enough money out of us as it is and that speeding fines are an extra way of getting more money. They say that it is for safety, that is bullsh*t, it is for extra income. If you take a look at reports since speed camera's have been introduced accidents have actually increased.
Given some of these responses, you would think i had driven past a primary school at 74mph. Not the case at all.
So in response to my original question, before we got side tracked, i guess there is no way of avoiding these points!
Just trying to save a little bit of money, just like all of you who are on here.
Thanks0 -

So , what do you suggest ? everyone drive as fast as they like , as long as they are confident that they are driving safely ?
Stick to the speed limit , it aint rocket science0 -
Nope, 'fraid not. Next time, get some blacked out windows and those revolving number plates like Bond had. Or not speed.0
