UPDATED: Air Source Heat Pumps/Air Con - Full Info & Guide, is it cheaper to run than mains gas?

In my experience most of the MCS accredited installers load their quotes up so much (because they can), that the midlands company might still be competitive. I had a load of ridiculous quotes and it sounds like Mitchy has had a few jokers himself. At least he's only local delivery on a McDonald Engineers EcoFlow2000....0

I used these guys:
http://www.acsrenewables.co.uk/
They are MCS Accredited and Ecodan Approved Installers, and came in at the best price of all suppliers I contacted. They did a first rate job and the cusomter service is second to none. I can't recommend them highly enough.
I'm sure they'd do you a good price, a good job and although I am not sure they normally cover up to Stirling it's got to be worth giving them a shout.
No, I don't work for them..0 -
Bookmarked for contact tomorrow as well! many thanks.
Just really wary about getting taken for a mug with what is, with the exception of the house, my most expensive purchase and its got to work.0 -
Ours works. I've lived in this bungalow for 22 years and this is the first time it has been warm enough all through the house not to need draught excluder sausages on each door to the lounge. We don't even bother with a coal fire any more. Folk who have mains gas just don't appreciate how much more expensive it has always been to live off the gas main. Until now!0

The thought of not paying for LPG really excites me!
Plus leccy at 7.5p a unit = cheap as chips!0 -
In that case I should scrap your LPG boiler - because let's face it, you aren't going to want to pay for the LPG, so you're never going to use the boiler. If you have open fires and a stove I expect you'll prefer to burn wood (like we do). Plus you should get the full RHI if you don't have the bivalency of the LPG boiler.0

To what extent would it affect the RHI if it was just there as a backup?? Not wanting to burn all bridges, get it taken out then find that the Heat Pump isnt all I thought it would be.
Despite everyone being very possitive on here, I'm ever the pessimist on these things!
Contacted both companies mentioned above so waiting to hear back.0 -
I read loads of stuff at the beginning of this thread where people (who didn't have an ASHP) argued with others that the things wouldn't give out enough heat on the coldest of days. But, so what? 95% of days aren't the coldest of days and so far (and we've had a few frosts but nothing like last year) this year ours has heated the radiators in our house like a trooper. Not quite as hot as the LPG boiler but then it's only costing circa 25p an hour, rather than a quid.
I'm not sure about the implication to the RHI payments of having an LPG boiler as well as ASHP. They might argue that if you chose, you could just use the LPG and that wouldn't satisfy the requirements of the scheme. You'd have to check and with so little info about I expect that'd be hard to do. OTOH, if you do get a full RHI payment for 18 years that'd buy a lot of bags of coal for the coldest of coldest of days. Wouldn't it?0 -
ok cool one thanks for sharing0

Warm one, you mean?0
