That's good that she has calculated correctly, a few options then, either a 14kW, or as I would suggest one 8.5kw and one 5kw and connect the extension (when it's built) as a standalone system. by the way hot water is done when heating is not required (i.e. early morning/late afternoon/night)therefore you would not add this on to the calcs.
or one 8.5 kW system bivalent connected with the LPG boiler although you would not get the full RHI.

  • Excellent thanks! Given the cold here I am tempted to edge on the side of caution and get the 14kw, then at a later date if required get another smaller one.

With the RHI have you seen any indication of how it will be paid? Ie a one off annual payment or some sort of monthly kick back? Very hard to find anything that detailed about it as yet.

I would advise you get further quotes anyway, if you went for the 14kW, for the current house, this would easily manage the new extension.....you wouldn't need another system......diversity would take care of that.

The RHI should be payed on deemed tariff (i.e. size of house M2 / number of bedrooms, SAP) once per year by an energy company of your choice, this will be administered by GEMSERV, via DECC.

  • Definately looking for other quotes, no way I want to be paying the £15k (ish) that Ice were suggesting. Thanks again for your help.

Anyone on here from Scotland and can recommend a company to contact regarding installation/commission?

  • Central Region, just outside Stirling.

I have already tried the one at the Agricultural Centre in Stirling and theyre going to quote me. Would however prefer to hear of ones that have had possitive feedback!
  • I don't know any that would cover Scotland, sorry.....

If, for example a company from the midlands put a couple of engineers in a van to drive up, stay in digs, do the job, all tested / commissioned, I would say you are looking at £10K+5%vat exactly for the 14kW c/w 210L hot water cylinder system. IYKWIM ;) I'm sure you should be able to get it done for less...locally.
