    Support your local florist.

Pay £1.50/£1.75 for a Rose all year 'round.

Pay £5 for a Rose around Valantines.

Support your local florist my bottom. (For 'bottom' think of Jim Royale).

Most Flowers sold in florists are sold at auction by the growers, prices vary all year because of this, high demand ( roses at valentines) means flowers are sold at a higher price at the auctions. hiking the prices that the wholesalers then sell on to the florists. we dont just put the prices up because in valentines day!!

Supermakets dont have this problem because they buy the flower farms that grow the roses. so have there own supply being grow for them by the field full with no extra costs because they own the land . most small florists cant afford to buy there own flower growers.
  • try your local florists they will most likely have acouple of options for a single rose delivered, if you go local the delivery charge will probably be lower than if you order on-line too.
  • You can also get 5% cashback on the M&S deal through Quidco! That means a dozen fairtrade roses for £18.50.

This is the thing that gets me... last year I bought from a local florist and they did a wonderful job of the flowers (2nd time round anyways as the colours were wrong the 1st time). Looking to use them again this year but thought I'd ask them to deliver - apparently they are charging £7.99 for delivery!!! So its a case of buying a dozen roses from a bigger supplier including delivery or paying the same for the roses and delivery on top for the local florist. Hmm... I really think they should reduce the delivery cost especially as it probably takes them 10 minutes considering its local.

Ok, rant over... awaiting for all the local florists to bite my head off now saying that this includes staff and petrol costs.

so why not support a local business instead

Because they don't provide free parking and open in the evenings??
  • Valueflora.com are doing a dozen red roses for £18.99 delivered and you can double up for an extra £10. I use this company regularly for having flowers delivered and have had little or no problems using them.

  • Roses do not grow in winter in UK... they all come from africa grown by underpaid Kenyans, working for foreign-owned factories, who used pesticides and water from drying rivers in an arid country..

    :(:(:(

Please stop buying roses for valentines days

That's interesting Greg. I didn't see that until after posting. Wasn't aware of this. Amazing!
