Re the £20 Cupid offer at Marks and Spencer's that Martin recommends, does anyone know what time they deliver? Went through to checkout, but it doesn't give you times. Don't want to have to wait indoors all day Saturday!
  • It should be pointed out that all the roses offered for delivery at low prices are cheap short stemmed ones that your local florist will probably be able to sell for less. Thats fine if you know what you're buying and are happy with it. But if you look for proper quality roses on those sites they are selling for the same price as Interflora or Teleflower. And what makes the best impression - a cardboard box off the mail van or hand delivered by a real florist?
  • I've just had my credit card statement through from Mint and there's a 15% discount code in there for Bunches.co.uk, it's "Heart3" - their dozed red roses are £32.99 including courier delivery, but with the discount, the price comes down to just over £28. They're guaranteed to arrive on Valentines day and they're 'Valentino' roses apparently, which are a lot better quality then a lot of places are selling for lower prices. I've used Bunches before and the quality is very good - my mum is always very pleased, and she's pretty difficult to please!!

For the last five years I have gone to Morrisons for one dozen red roses that cost £4-95.
These usually last about a month and are the best value around.
  • As an independant florist owner, i can only urge people NOT to be sucked into the cheap deals.
The roses you will receive are of the lowest possible grade, are not conditioned properly and will be delivered in a tatty, battered cardboard box, that could be left in your back garden if no-one is in. If you are a cheap skate then by all means, show how little your loved one means to you by shopping for a dozen roses at tesco or asda... I'm not suggesting that you have to spend hundreds of pounds, but you could get an individual design, tailor made for you at your local florist, that WILL be delivered by hand, not by courier. Most florists have mixed flowers bouquets for delivery with a starting price of around £20 for Valentines Day, and will offer other options than Red Roses for a truly individual gift.
Please support your local businesses (florists included!) particularly during these difficult economic times, who can offer a quality service and excellent products. You may think you are getting a good deal now, but in the long term there will be less and less independant retailers which will lead to a monopoly by large corps and ultimately PRICE HIKES!
  • I have looked at the Waitrose website and found the 50 white roses for £25 but there appears to be an additional £5 delivery charge.....

That's a bit harsh isnt it? I dont think you can call anyone a 'cheap skate' for wanting to get a bunch of a dozen red roses for the best price they can! Of course they wont be the best quality but not everyone can afford to go to their local florist and pay more for better quality.

I understand what you are saying and that big companies under cutting you at this time of year must really be annoying, but I think you have to realise that not everyone can afford the best.

Personally I will be buying from my local florist this year but that's only because I can afford to spend more on flowers this year.

  • i know its a difficult year and all but PLEASE dont buy from supermarkets they are the worst flowers ive ever seen, they dont last two minutes and your girlfriend/boyfriend wont be impressed! please go to a local florist, even if you dont get roses there are plenty more flowers which will show you love them. all from £10 - £50

well you will have to, problem with supermarkets is that there all made in some warehouse somewhere, if you had gone to a local florist and got some proper flowers they would have given you and estamated time.
