My husband always bought roses from our local florist, it did always cost a bit more i would have liked him to pay. recently he bought me roses from m & s, they had the same life span! and the quality were the same. so would definatly buy roses/flowers from supermarkets.Serial lurker..0

Support your local florist.
Pay £1.50/£1.75 for a Rose all year 'round.
Pay £5 for a Rose around Valantines.
Support your local florist my bottom. (For 'bottom' think of Jim Royale).
If only the local florists could buy the roses in at the same price all year.
Maybe you don't realise that the growers take the opportunity to make some good money at Valentines, therefore the importers have to pay more, then the wholesalers pay more, then the florists pay more and so the customer ends up paying more.
If you want to blame anyone for the price hike its the customers all over Europe who demand red roses on Feb 14!
The supermarkets and online companies are also paying the inflated prices and so offer the cheap £20 bunches because they can make a bigger profit on these than on the quality roses. Most florists don't sell these at Valentines because they're bunches that are sold as a bunch for a few pound all year round. If you requested these from a local shop you would most likely get them at a far cheaper price than the online shops anyway.
I like a bargain as much as anyone but its only a bargain when its equivalent quality.0 -

I got MSE's email and went to order the Dozen Red Roses for £20. This price included delivery on a date I chose. One of the comments below is correct - VAT knocked off another 42p. So I went to check out where the price I paid was £4.08!!!!! I have no idea why - I didn't enter any code. Below is the part of my invoice cut and paste as proof. Not sure if this is some freak occurence or I was a millionth customer or what. However the confirmation email has come through and confirmed the price paid as £4.08. Good luck to anyone else!

I find use of the word 'cheap skate' very demeaning.
Im sure everyone would like to use a florist, but just cannot afford to, just like we would all like a Rolls Royce, but have to make do with a Fiesta, or dinner at Gordon Ramseys, but settle for the local pub.
I bet the florist who mentioned this shops at a supermarket, do they use a greengrocer (if you can find one), use their local electrical shop for a toaster, their local pet food shop!!
People will buy what they can afford, be this from Ebay (some brilliant flower deals on there and you can check the service via feedback),supermarket, market stall, garage, online or florist shop.
Flowers will always be seen as something that doesnt last, so why pay lots of money them, after all ITS THE THOUGHT THAT COUNTS0 -
I found this thread whilst searching in Google for Cheap Flowers. Does anyone know where this site has got it's prices from?
http://www.cheap-flowers.org.uk
They seem low for roses.
Also, I read an article somewhere about the owner of Next Day Flowers (https://www.nextdayflowers.co.uk) - He seemed like an honest hard working guy, I'd recommend buying from them just on that basis alone!
I need twelve red roses delivered on Friday, any recommendations?
Thanks0
