  • i know its a difficult year and all but PLEASE dont buy from supermarkets they are the worst flowers ive ever seen, they dont last two minutes and your girlfriend/boyfriend wont be impressed! please go to a local florist, even if you dont get roses there are plenty more flowers which will show you love them. all from £10 - £50

I have brought flowers from Sainsburys for years and they have lasted at least a month each time.

I have also had a couple from interflora and these were dead within a week.

Flowers will always be seen as something that doesnt last, so why pay lots of money them, after all ITS THE THOUGHT THAT COUNTS

    So true!

Hey guys, I'm looking to get some from my local florist on Saturday morning but when is the best time to order there? One florist who works outside a tube station told me to just pop in on Friday and buy the ones I want then, picking them up on Saturday but I'm worried that he wont have too much of a selection...

    Advice welcomed :)

I had terrible service last time i went to a local florist - my nextdoor neighbours mother died christmas eve so on the sat i went to a florist locally to get some flowers. The assistant turned her nose up when i said i wanted to spend £10- she then asked me what flowers i would like i explained what it was for and let her choose as i had no idea!. The end 'thing' was a few and i mean few flowers - including one large sunflower (i felt this very inappropriate but was so hacked of by this point to say anything) and well my 9 year old who has poor co-ordination could have wrapped them up better. I was embarrassed handing them over to my neighbour.

I would not love my hubby less if he bought me tesco flowers - its the thought that counts not how much you spend. I definitely wouldnt think him a cheap skate.
Debt free May 2016 (without the support of MSE forum users that would never have been possible - thank you all)

Suppose thats the risk of using a local florist. I've gone into Florists before and asked them to make me a bunch for £10 and they normally do a good job. If I were you I would have refused that bunch as it wasnt suitable.

This is why I'm tempted to visit my old local florist for Valentines where I know they do a good job of presenting the flowers. But the problem with that is that they are too far away! :(

  • Ive always tried to support local businesses and prefererred going to a local florist to get a personalised bunch. However I simply cant justify it anymore. I know there are good florists out there but Ive been disapppointed by all my purchases from florists.

The last straw was when I bought a bunch for mothers day for £25 and then saw the huge arranagement a friend got for just £18 from Tesco. My flowers were dead within 5 days and the Tesco bunch went on and on.

Im afraid I will be going to a supermarket, not for the £5 roses but the fresher, decent priced bunches you get there.
  • Well its the local florist for me!!

I went today and she pulled out her book which looked like it was from Flowers Direct and it had bouquets of the Sunflowers I was after with prices starting at £39 underneath. I asked her and she said her prices start at £25 for that one!! Very happy. So I've helped a local business, saved money and supported a company who support my local football club too!! I'm phoning tomorrow morning to up my order to £30.

Well worth looking at your local florists and she will deliver Saturday morning!!

I too like to support local florists as I really dont want to fuel Tesco's greed! A bouquet in the florist for £10 would be the same size as the £10 ones tesco sell and last just as long, ok so no clupoints (only loose 10 points anyway so 40p max). They would probably be displayed and wrapped nicer too and delivered for that extra special touch and its more thoughful as dh only buys flowers from tesco when hes forgot and ran out of time to buy anything else!
