Hi,
Whilst in J lewis today (browsing) I saw some LED TVs as well as LCD, can anyone explain what the differrence is? and are they any better or the way fordard?
Why has the bottom dropped out of the prices for TVs?0 -
robd831 Check out the link I posted above, it has info about LED too.
Basically, "LED TVs are slimmer, more energy efficient and picture quality, to date, has generally been impressive". Better bright and darks....
The price of TVs has dropped just as it does for every other piece of technology. When it is brand new and nobody has it, the price is high, a couple of years later when everybody has it and they are harder to sell the price drops.
LED, LCD, Plasma, for the general user, like myself, it is just down to personal preference, all have their own good and bad points.0 -
thanks Liam8282,
The picture in the LED was excellent, I wasn't sure if it was the setup in the shop. It was also only about one inch (2.5cm) thick....0 -
Ive now narrowed my search to 3, anyone have any views as to which is best or any other similar recommendations?

Hi guys,
This is something I feel I am pretty qualified to talk about!!
I am currently looking to buy a tv myself but as I look at these things during my working life I have pretty much made up my mind before looking around. First off you have to buy a make you have heard of. I have seen some awful pictures on tv's that say they are full hd but the quality has been awful.
I bought a LG last year (these are the guys that invented HD). Its ok but I am pretty underwhelmed by it. Mainly because I wish I bought a Panasonic. I love them. I think the picture is so much better on these than on most other sets. Sony comes close to be fair and do some of the new samsungs but I still prefer Panasonic. Also I will go for the 400hz (makes a big difference imho). Not a great fan of plasma's, only because they have gone wrong in the past.
What is funny about tv's it is a matter of conjecture. Some people may think one picture is better than another depending on the settings. I believe some pictures are too light where some customers think its great. All down to opinion.0 -
Pansonic are very good but if you get one which goes wrong then the customer service if pretty woeful.
I have been dealing with televisions for about 7 years now.......mainly supplying to trade etc but also selling single ones on ebay etc.
From my experience most people tend to go for Sony, Samsung, Panasonic and LG. Obviously Pioneer are the best of the best, but very expensive. The new panasonic VT series will be very good as Panasonic have bought one of Pioneers manufacturing sites and this is where it is made.
Personally speaking I dont think you can go wrong with any of the above. LG and Samsung tend to cheaper but with Sony / Panasonic you pay a bit more, but the sets seem to be that bit better too.
From the post above, the 400hz doesnt make too much difference to be honest. In fact i think you would struggle to tell the difference between a 100hz and 600hz set.0 -

OH has bought from Richer sounds for years and swears by them. Good products, good prices, good service. The guys in the shops know what they're talking about - at least they do in the Birmingham store! They have good clearance bargains too. HTH0 -

Pay no attention to a TV being 600hz. It's nothing to do with what 100hz (and 200hz) sets are about, which is to do with refresh rates on the screen. 600hz is to do with the colour reproduction and really shouldn't be a massive priority when you're choosing a new TV.
Best thing anybody can do is to actually pop to a shop and see some of these TVs in action - and ask to see a blu ray or HD source rather than whatever feed they're putting out to all TVs. But remember showroom TVs are set up differently to how you'll have them at home, unless you like the bright lights from a high street store in your living room!0 -
I would recommend Richer Sounds too, that is where I got my tv from.
When I got mine the price was better than any other shop, and that was including the 5 year guarantee (10% of the price of the tv).
Just a point if you are going to use Richer Sounds, sometimes they have cheaper prices on their website than instore. If you see something you like online, with a good price, just ring them up and quote the price and they let you have it for the internet price. Also, it is just worth the call to make sure the item is in stock.0
