Hi sunrise,
I treat soups that I make in the slow cooker in exactly the same way as I would if I were to cook them on the hob, so use your usual recipes and let them simmer away for as long as you like.
There is an existing thread on cooking soup in the slow cooker so I'll add your post to it to keep the replies together and if you want some new soup recipes there are lots on this thread:

I made some beef stock in the slow cooker yesterday, with marrowbones the butcher gave me.
I have a recipe for ham hock and bean soup.
I have brought the ham hoch to the boil, then changed the water,it says to simmer for 1 and a half hours.
Can I do this in the slow cooker, then i add allthe rest of the ingrediants (according to the recipe, boil, and then simmer for 40 mins.
I have acquired a big slow cooker that has 1 (low) auto and 2 (higher) settings (kenwood cook pot, pretty old)
oops, had to edit that quick as i spelt cook wrong:oIf you don't leap, you'll never know what it is to fly :heartpuls0 -
I do a lot of my 'normal' soup recipes in the slow cooker but tend to cook them all for about 8 hours on low. The only thing i would say is to reduce the amount of liquid that goes in as i find it seems to get runnier in the slow cooker - having said that when i do a lentil based soup i use the right amount of liquid and just chuck an extra handful of lentils in and it does the trickEmma
