    And do they taste ok?
  • Yeah they taste great-depending on what you do. one of my favourites from last year was chopped veg (carrot celery onions leeks chopped finely) HM chicken stock(made in SC :)) and some soup mix (the one you don't need to pre-cook)
Is my version of broth without the norn iron soup veg (God I miss that stuff-soup celery mmmmmmmm)
veg is very tender but if you want al dente you may want to cook for less time ;)
I also make soups I am going to blitz up with a blender they taste great. The thing I find with the SC is to make sure not to use too much water if not actually using stock as nothing gets reduced down

Well, I have put some carrot, swede, potato, onion and mushrooms in with garlic, mixed herbs and salt and pepper, covered in stock........will see how I get on!
  • I'm looking forward to making some nice meals in my shiny new sc but want to start off slowly so thinking soup might be a good choice. What do you think?
I've got to do shopping later but have some chicken stock and veg water in freezer. Can anyone point me in the direction of a step by step recipe please? I've looked at the soup thread but so far haven't found slow cooker instructions for them. It's a 6.5 litre and I'm hoping to freeze some.
Just want a really nice recipe for my 1st attempt! Thanks.

We do a very basic chicken soup - stock, carrots, potatoes, onions, celery, chicken - cook until vegs are ready, then we use the recipe for dumplings on the atora box and add those - cook for about another half hour. add salt and pepper to taste. Very basic, but we like it.

:snow_grin Christmas 2013 is coming soon!!! :xmastree:
  • Thanks for that. The dumplings sound good - would never have thought of that and I love them!
Do you have any timings or prep instructions? I'm not really sure what to do. Can I use the chicken stock or veg juices from frozen?

cassoroles and stews are really easy as in chilli and bol there is a thread on here somewhere with LOADS of easy ones on ive got pea and ham soup in mine at the min!!!
  • Did your slow cooker come with a manual? Ours did and the manual included a recipe book which included some really simple recipes, and instructions for converting your own recipes for cooking in the slow cooker.

Basically all you need to do for a yummy meal is brown off some meat, add veg to the pan and heat through, add liquid, bring to the boil, transfer all to slow cooker and leave for a few hours!

    Very easy and lovely results.
I don't believe and I never did that two wrongs make a right
  • I have a chilli in mine at the moment,so easy...
I don't have exact amount as just bung it in as I go LOL

    Packet of mince
Couple handfulls of lentils(make it go longer ;-))
    Onions
    peppers
garlic ( i use frozen for the above 3)
    1 chilli pepper
tin of baked beans(could use kidney but mine prefer baked)
    tin of tomato's
    1 stock cube
    1/2 cup of water
    2 tbs of chilli powder

Chuck it all in the slow cooker, give it a stir, put lid on and leave either on low if on all day or high if on after lunch time

Other thing I do is layer of onions mixed with garlic on the bottom, place beef joint on top with a bit of stock and cook all day.Beef is really tender with a lovely flavour going through

    Enjoy!

    couple of spoons of sugar
    sprinkle of nutmeg on top

Bung in switch on all day on low or after lunch on high, stir after a couple of hours but no probs if your not in! 1/2 hour before eating add a tine of carnation milk and stir

    yum yum yum
