Hi,
I'm about to be the proud owner of a slow cooker (in a few days ho ho ho!) and I want to make HM soup in it to take into work for lunch.
I've looked at the indexed slow cooker recipe collection and there doesn't seem to be a category for soup recipes. Can anyone point me in the right direction. I'd like to print out some recipes and follow them first to 'get to grips' with the slow cooker before i just start experimenting (need to build confidence first).
Thanks and have a great ChristmasMS Stalwart. Used site for >10 years :jMake Do, Mend and Minimise member - focussing on upcycling/repurposing and sewing0 -
Almost any soup recipe can be made in your slow cooker. Remember that liquid will not evaporate, so use less BUT beware of diluting flavour - you do have to experiment a bit.
Don't re-heat meat in the slow cooker.
My faves for HM soup are root vegetables, and they cook beautifully in the slow cooker. Bestest IMO is curried parsnip soup (I put in a bit of apple)
You can make stock in the slow cooker as long as you boil it thoroughly first. This is useful as I think a good stock is the basis for just about anything. I keep Marold veg stock powder by me to use as a quick extra flavouring if needed.
One of the things I love to do with a slow cooker is to buy a cheap joint, then with lots of flavouring / marinade, I pot-roast it in the slow cooker with little or no extra liquid. That joint is the basis for a good few meals, often ending up with the last bits chopped into soup.0 -
I personally don't really like soup made in the slow cooker, I don't know why but I always find that veg cooked in it (unless in a stew) just go all inspid and tasteless. It could well just be me being weird though!0

I agree Lisa - pressure cookers are for soupA positive attitude may not solve all your problems, but it will annoy enough people to make it worth the effort

I mainly make lentil soup or chicken and rice in the slow cooker(altho recently ive been using my pressure cooker instead)
No recipe as such,i just throw in the following and cook on high for around 6hrs
LENTIL
1 smoked ham hough,or ribs
chopped onions,
grated carrot(loads)
Veg stock cube,
red split lentils(again no weight,as i measure them to fill the sieve ive used for years to rinse first.)
tsp garam masala,
sometimes i add a tin of chopped tomatoes,
boiling water to almost fill the slow cooker.
CHICKEN AND RICE
similar to above, but with stock from left over cooked chicken,(and any left over scraps)
chopped onion,
grated carrot,
chicken stock cube,
sieve full of rinsed white rice.
VEGETABLE SOUP,
Again smoked ham hough/rib for stock,then just about anything;
carrots,onions,celery,potato,leek,turnip,parsnips and a sprinkling of curly kale.Slimming World..Wk1,..STS,..Wk2,..-2LB,..Wk3,..-3.5lb,..Wk4,..-2.5,..Wk5,..-1/2lb,Wk6,..STS,..Wk7,..-1lb.

ive merged this with our SC soup thread. Any soup can be made SC friendly, just remember you don't lose much (if any) water, so adapt your water amount accordingly
Soup recipes should also help
