Kassandra, I'm sorry your ordeal was so horrid. It beggars belief that they don't have disabled access to these places.

Well I'm still procrastinating about going to the GP, part of the problem is that I know that I will need more than the standard 10 minutes to explain everything and they must be so busy at the moment with the swine flu thing. I'm also trying to decide which Dr I want to see, it's down to 2 - the dishy doc who is very good and efficient but is likely to be in a hurry or the lady doc who is likely to take the time but can be a bit ineffectual.

Do you think I should just go in and say I would like a referral to a specialist - that might work well with the dishy doc, but i don't want to put their backs up by making them think I'm self diagnosing. How did other people approach the problem, or didn't it arise for you all?

omg what do i do now,

ok i know i cant get medical advice but.. i finally got a letter today from the doctor who diagnosed the fibro so i have that now in black in white..

but it also has my results from my last set of lumbar puncture and mri scans..

the lumbar now shows oligoclonal bands (not band but bands) and the mri shows ischaemic lesions, (previously over the years been told there are patches of something) did the usual search the net and has got me a lil worried, so i have stopped looking, not due to see neurologist till sept.
Life is about give and take, if you can't give why should you take?

Edited to say I have just been on the Fibromyalgia UK website and someone has recommended the lady doc I mentioned above so I think that's answered my question.

I just told her that I had been on forums to learn how to manage it and that a few people had mentioned specialists and did she think it would be a good idea for me to be referred?

I know what you mean about them being busy. I should have gone back by now to discuss the change of meds that rheumatologist advised but feel like I shouldn't while they are under so much pressure. When I rang about DS1 having pig flu she said she thought she had spoken to every parent in the city! It's going to be around for a while though so you may as well go.

Ok - with the toss up between docs (which you may've already sorted): my Gp that I prefer to see (mainly cos he seems to be the only one staying there through a change of doctors and because he knows my history and is open to my suggestions etc) doesn't mind when I ask to be referred to people or for tests. I went and asked him about a question I had about mitochondrial function and he admitted to not knowing but gave me the number for the specialist (who diagnosed me) secretary to discuss. So I wouldn't let the "self diagnosis" put you off. The worst they can say is no, at which point I would ask for a decent reason why.

As for not having time in a 10min appt, some people on here ask for double appointments and that seems to work quite well for them.

As for the worry about swine flu etc, I've just been down to my docs and I was the only person there...altho when I was leaving my appt I said at the door "at least I didn't come in and say I think I had swine flu" and got a deadpan face in response so had to qualify I was joking!! :rotfl:And like Kass said, it's likely to go on for a while so I would just go for it, regardless.

I haven't a clue what either of those things are, but I would make an appointment to see my GP and discuss it with him, and ask him to see if he can expedite matters with the specialist appointment (which I have done before and know it is possible). Don't blame you for being worried, for checking the internet, or for stopping checking the internet! But if you're worried then I would go and discuss it with someone who has a clue (GP = first step).

I've just come back from the GP (not my usual one as he's on holiday...again ). I asked him to check that my tonsilitis has cleared up (which he reckons they have done so have no more antibiotics....only time will tell now). I asked him about the "bladder pain" I feel - took him a water sample which he said was normal - and said that I wanted him to check it wasn't a UTI (which I was pretty sure it wasn't) and asked whether it was a side effect of the pregabalin...which he then had to look up in his book. He mentioned that it was possible, but that the only way to know was to stop the pregabalin (an idea that fills me with horror after the last debacle) and see if the symptoms go away. So for now I think I'm stuck with it. (I intend to see normal GP for his advice tho and maybe go back to 75mg at night instead of the 150mg that I've only just upped to) I also asked him about this dental malarky and whether they could write a letter or something to explain to the dentists that I have ME and an already shonky immune system and that this dental abcess isn't helping matters. He asked me whether the dental abcess would affect my immune system!! Should he not know that kind of thing?? We didn't get that resolved, but he did send me for blood tests to check my "inflammatory response". I asked what would happen next if the levels were elevated and he said "take one step at a time"! HOW infuriating is that really??
I'm not holding my breath.

I've got such a temples-crushed-in-a-vice headache today. I've taken some diclofenac (it's a wonder I can bring myself to take any pills after the weekend debacle!) but it's not touched it and I don't wanna take anything else right now cos I need to go get DF from work and don't want a woozy reaction whilst driving.:o
