unity, lots of very gentle hugs to you and hopes that it passes quickly.

seaside, stay snuggled up with a hottie bottie and get OH to run round a bit bringing you tea and peeling you grapes until you improve.

BZ, I thought for years my head stuff was dandruff - even when I ended up with scabs at the nape of my neck from it. I sortta hadn't really acknowledged it as excema until I started to get patches of it under my arms as well. I had found a shampoo that seemed to keep it at bay for a while, but it's made a bid for a comback in the last few months or so.

Not quite awake enough to post properly, but have finally remembered to say that the forums will be going down at approx 10pm on Friday, all of Saturday and they're hoping to get them back up sometime on Sunday rather than it being all day.
    Laters.

Thanks for the hugs and right back atcha ;). When I get like this it just seems to set everything off including an annoying pain in the bum :D no, honestly! I rarely get it but I find it wakes me up and it's a deep throbbing ache that's hard to ignore. Mind you, I did notice yesterday that things in my lumbar spine were moving about a bit and grinding together when I turned so it could be pressure on a nerve. I also feel like I've been rubbed with coarse sand paper. DH said: "I've heard some people say that shingles is the worst pain ever, and they've only had it the once - you get it every month to six weeks so it's no wonder it wears you down." Just goes to show - sometimes the weaker sex do spout pearls of wisdom :D.

Anyway I got some meditation CD's from Amazon last week - they are mostly for past-life regression, but also include healing meditations that are the best I've found. It was quite sunny and warm earlier in the conservatory so I went in there - lay on the sofa and listened to this CD all about light flooding in through the top of my head, down through my neck etc. etc., right down to my toes. I must have dozed off at some point - although I remember the voice saying that, when he had counted down from ten I would be awake and feeling much better and - I was .

We had planned to go and see 'Young Victoria' this pm, but have decided I need another day to recover - so have put it on the agenda for tomorrow. We may go early to see 'The Boat that Rocked' then have lunch and stay on for YV after that. Isn't it daft though how even sitting and concentrating on a film can wear you out?

I'm off to read a bit more of 'Marked' now - I'm really enjoying it (thanks :T) . Sometimes you just need a book like this, where it's enjoyable but you don't have to 'think' too much. I thought that 'Jonathan Strange and Mr Norrell' was really bad in terms of characterisation as I couldn't figure out who was who - no strong traits to differentiate one from another IYSWIM? Suep has already sent me the second one so I'm well set up with reading matter since I can't even summon up the energy to knit .
Some people hear voices, some see invisible people. Others have no imagination whatsoever :D

    Afternoon all.

Gentle ((((HUGS)))) for Unity and Seaside, hope you're both suitably recovered very soon.

And I'm joining the "gentle nagging of Raeh club"; please get yourself to the GP; you'll have to go sooner or later, might as well get it over and done with.:o

BZ well done on getting some action from your GP.

    :hello:to everyone I haven't mentioned by name.

Talking of GPs, I've been nagging Mr LW for a week to make himself an appointment, and finally he's done it - for April 25th. Not normally a problem, but he'll run out of his meds on April 19th. Anyway, I've emailed for a repeat, and hope they'll issue it before he's seen the GP - I've explained the situation, so they should be OK with that.

We're supposed to be going to Dungeons & Dragons tonight - hope I have enough spoons left by then. I might just be tempted to "accidentally" launch a Magic Missile at Mr LW.:D

ok am i missing something obvious again?

bz the amount of things you did yesterday has made me exhausted just thinking about it. hope you got to sleep earlier last night.
Well it's one of Cwta's lame jokes, so I'll let you make your mind up if it's obvious or not :p

I did get to sleep earlier last night, thankfully. It was about 2.30am I think, which considering that's really 1.30 real old time, that's not bad at all! :j

Hi folks. Thanks for all your support - seriously - it's helped me feel a lot less isolated.

Not sure how the medical went. The dr didn't speak great English for a start, and I've a strong accent, so not sure how that worked. He typed down everything I said - meds, how it affects me, what I do. Talked a little about work. He didn't really challenge me on anything. But he also didn't ask me a lot - didn't ask if I could prepare a meal, didn't ask me to walk (and the centre was tiny, so he didn't see me walk much), didn't ask about whether I needed help to wash or get dressed - none of what I thought was the obvious stuff. I did say some of that when he asked at the end if there was anything else I wanted to say, but I'm not sure I remembered everything, and he didn't record most of what I said. His chief interest was whether I fall over a lot, what I watch on TV, and my favourite bizarre questions 'how would you describe yourself in a sentence?' and 'do you like people?' (I said yes, fried with mustard with chips on the side - actually, I could have said that, he'd probably just have nodded and typed it down!).

He did make a big deal of the swimming - saying it was leisure - and me saying 'no, it's under medical supervision'. He'd never heard of the pain clinic, of shiatsu, or of swimming being used as a treatment. Very odd. I was very insistent that it's not something I like to do, but something my GP tells me to do...

The physical exam bit was hard. He brought in a 'chaperone' - the grumpy secretary - who wasn't even introduced - who then watched my humiliation. Couldn't sit up from lying down, and couldn't lift my legs more than an inch. Tried to make me put my shoes back on while I was still perched on the table, but I refused. But I did find it humiliating.

The doctor was pleasant enough - polite and patient - but I got the impression he wasn't that experienced with these medicals and was very, very bored. He was using the computer system which is why I'm confused that he didn't ask about meals or washing. Any ideas?

Anyhow, I'm looking forward to trying to get a decent night's sleep tonight. I spent last night in crazy pain, and throwing up. Tonight I'm going to have several beers with my tramadol (irresponsible but necessary), have tomorrow off work, and try not to think about it. Any idea when I might expect an outcome?

Unity - I'm reading 'Full Catastrophe Living' How to Cope wth Stress, Pain and Illness using Mindfulness Meditation'. It was recommended by a friend who's a clinical psychologist. Wouldn't recommend the book (it's ok, but a bit repetitive, and 400 plus pages!), but there are also cds, which are supposed to be brilliant. Looking forward to trying them. I'll try anything once!

Hope everyone's doing ok, and finding something to make them smile this afternoon.
  • Looks like what you did to get to sleep last night worked bz. Sounds like you got through everythig at the docs with some results too, which is brilliant.

Joke? Lame?? How very dare you!!!!

I really did plan to do the ironing today, honest. I just got tired out really quickly. Did food shopping and chores in various places. You know one of those days where you have to park in 3 different areas to go to specific shops? When I got back home my feet and back were killing me and I couldn't get warm again, so it hasn't happened and I feel [strike]guilty[/strike] disappointed. Got another headache too. Pooh.

I think my energy levels still aren't back to (my) normal after the cold. I must change the stinky bed though!
I must go, I have lives to ruin and hearts to break :D

  • jo, at least it's over now, and if you feel strongly about the capability of the doc you saw and the notes he made, it gives you grounds for appeal if necessary (and I sincerely hope it's not).

Hi Jo. I remember now that he asked me what I did in my spare time so I said tv. He asked me what I watched. What kids of programmes. How long they were. Whether I watched films. How long I spent on the computer. It was all very bizarre and tenuous in my opinion. He asked me about exercise and whether I'd done any before I got well too (I could've taken offence to this as it sounded like he was implying/infering that I was lazy). I think he asked me if I liked people too. I'm pretty sure that I was asked about whether I socialised and I said something like "only if they come round to my house and I get tired from it", I like your (mental) answer about fried with chips etc more though. :D

It is all very impersonal and I also object to the judgements being made from some of the questions. I don't think it's really got anything to do with my illness (in a lot of respects) whether I socialise or not. People on their deathbeds can still socialise with the people who come to see them. I do find it insulting and, you're right Jo, humiliating. I'm sure at some point the Disability Rights type folks will get on it, but in the meantime it seems to be a necessary evil.

I was never offered a chaperone, but then I has DF there with me. He never tried to get me to put my shoes back on and was still asking me questions when I was fiddling with them getting them back on whilst sat back at the desk I think. I don't remember if he asked me about washing? Pretty sure that he did ask about cooking, in that I remember saying something about microwave meals, but I wouldn't worry about it. I presume he checked with you that you'd signed the form you'd sent, and that will have everything on like that?

Well done for getting through it, I know it's not easy and it's a very nerve-wracking (and therefore exhausting) experience. :T

I got word back about 10days later last time, I think. But the time before it was more like weeks...maybe even a month or something? I would basically work on the principle that it could take 6 weeks and anything else is a bonus.

Ditto. I had scabs etc and I think I only started to put two and two together when I noticed how my nieces and nephew have ecsema (still not convinced I'm spelling that right?) and we (me and siblings) all seem to have sensitive skin to one degree or another.

    Oh I very dare. :D
I might make an appt for the GP fornext week incase foot is still sore. I know it usually takes a week to get an appt with him, so if I do a pre-emptive strike then I might be in with a chance ;) Am feeling better today (so far) so hoping that continues and the IBS settles down now I'm not on the dratted Erythromicin and my remaining energy (ha! that's a laugh! ;)) can get redirected into fighting off this stoopid sinusitis. Hoping that the antihistamines start to work better and have an added positive affect too.

Hope you're warm and your feet and back have recovered from your wanderings now Cwta and that you're beginning to recover too Unity. I hope you're keeping your spirits up too Sharon and that Seaside has recovered from the fall. Raeh make an appt with the docs! ;) And yes Cwta I do know that thing where you have to move your car from one place in the car park to another to visit another shop...I do it all the time! Don't worry about the ironing. It'll wait. :)

 to everyone else. I'm gonna try out a garlicy prawn spaghetti meal that I pilfered off my sister for us tonight and then visit MiL2B...who in theory should be fag free and grumpy as all getout, so that should be fun... I'll just console myself with the pups methinks ;)

I didn't say naked? But if that's where your mind went :D

I've been doing some pc housekeeping as various issues are starting to tick me off. Has taken hours, but can at least be done sitting down and with feet up.

This clock change always screws with my internal time clock and takes me ages to get straight. Is it dinner time yet??
