  • Thanks so much for ypur quick responses

all the letters I have had have got the capitalone logo on them. The only thing I had was an account number so do not know who the underwrites are the big thing I remember is taht when we settled the loan the rebate was very small only a couple of hundred pounds and the single primium ppi was 2800

yes, it's VERY common on early redemption to have to pay a high amount on the PPI (ask marshallka she knows all about it!!) if you want to go down both routes then just ask capital one for a copy of the policy that will tell you who the underwriters were
  • Do I just request the policy details . Do they have to provide them

a copy of the policy should be easy for them as it would have been a standard document - otherwise you can ask for what is called a subject access request 'SAR' which they are obliged under the Data Protection Act to provide - you have to pay £10 though
  • Hi there guy’s,

I’m new to the site and am wondering if I can ask advice about reclaiming PPI & unfair charges. In 2004 I managed to get myself into a stupid amount of debt to the sum of £36k. in 2005 I entered in an IVA, paid off 5k myself and luckily for me my dad bailed me out, made an offer of 11k which was accepted and the IVA was settled in Jan 2007, since then I have got my act together and am now debt free and trying my hardest to get my credit rating back into shape.

After signing up to this site news letter I successfully manage to claim back £1400 of unfair bank charges from HSBC in June 07. for some strange reason I didn’t attempt to do the same for my credit cards, bank loans and other bank account until now.

I have sent letters to Barclaycard, Mint, Egg, Capital One, Natwest (Loan). I am attempting to claim unfair charges and PPI. Most credit card applications were done via the internet in 04/05 and I don’t ever remember specifically requesting PPI. I am having a fight trying to get the companies to respond to me.

I have however had a response from RBS regarding the PPI for my Mint credit card. Basically their final decision is that I don’t have a leg to stand on. As far as I can remember I made this application on-line but they are saying it was via a postal application in feb 04 and that I signed to apply for PPI and that it was clearly shown on all of my statements. It may have been shown on my statements but I stupidly would not open my statements, no wonder I ended up in so much debt at a young age. So now I don’t know what to do.

Do I just give up on all of this, between all of my old credit cards theres at least £2k of charges and I dread to think how much I was charged in PPI.

Any advice would be very much appreciated x

the majority of banks will not uphold claims so I'd take your claims to the Financial Ombudsman Service, but be aware that although you've settled your debts they may hang onto any money you reclaim to pay any difference between what they got back to pay everything off.

if you're claiming mis selling then you're telling them you don't want the insurance - so the restructuring may be just to remove the ppi - but that doesn't automatically mean they've upheld you complaint - but I do hope you're lucky and they have

    Just got post. :j

Our doggie number 2 will now not have to wait for us to save for his operation and we will use the balance to clear some credit card debt, what a lovely feeling. :j

    Hello everyone...

I came here today looking for answers on a slightly different topic but having read this section of the forum I am both amazed and feel slightly stupid for paying my loan provider over the odds for PPI.

Just to fill you in on why I came here today. My E** loan will be fully repaid this month. Having made the repayments over a 78 month period by direct debit, without missing a payment, e** has now written to me stating that an addittional interest payment of approx. £18 is required. I emailed them disputing this amount and they replied -

"We allow you the option to select the date of your Direct Debit however we cannot take a payment until 30 days has elapsed. Your first payment was collected as of **-07-2003 and as a result 4 days worth of additional interest was accrued resulting in your higher final payment. This could have been countered at any time as you're able to make additional payments to your E** Loan with no penalties".

Infuriating! - I was never given a choice of start date and was never advised that addittional interest could be applied.

Anyway, having read some of the posts here I am now prepared to have a go at claiming a PPI refund from these blood suckers. Can anyone tell me if it's worth the effort considering my loan started June 2003. At that time I was told that the loan was subject to accepting their PPI.

    Hope someone can advise

    regards
