PPI Reclaiming Discussion part 4

Hello all - I hope you could give me some advice...
Whilst I am waiting on the decision on my attempt to reclaim PPI from Egg, I recently sent off the first letter to Northern Rock with whom I took out a much smaller loan (basically, in this case, when I took out the loan the salesperson told me that my chances of getting the loan would be greatly increased if It ook out PPI as it showed a "more responsible attitude towards borrowing").
Anyway, yesterday I got a reply. it was just a basic letter acknowledging my complaint, and a questionnaire for me to fill out. It asks for details about what type of PPI it was (e.g. broze, silver or gold), when I took it out, how much the premium was etc etc. Surely they should have this information and not need to ask me?
One of the questions was "have you ever had payment protection before taking out this loan" and another was "did you have payment protection elsewhere before you took out this loan". Well, I had PPI on my egg loan i'd taken out a couple of years earlier - should I mention that here?
Also, the questionnaire doesn't really give any place for me to state why I am actually trying to reclaim it (i.e. the rubbish the salesperson told me).
So should I just fill it in and send it back? Should I include another letter restating my reasons for reclaiming? Should I send a letter but refuse to fill it in?0 -
Hi WJ
Some do tend to do this. I would say they should know all those things beforehand. I would not fill it out. Write again and reiterate your original points.
Good luck:mad:0 -

You do not have to fill in the questionnaire as you quite rightly said most of the info they should have asked when taking the loan out. Also if you do fill it in again its your choice about mentioning the PPI on other credit.
I would just send another letter reiterating your complaint and take it from there. Good luck.0 -

If I had PPI on other credit is that in my favour or against it?0 -

Yeah I think you are probably right - they would ask "well why did you take out PPI on your other loan then?" etc.
I think I will fill in the very bare details e.g. just tick the box to say it was Gold cover (or whatever it was I took out) and fill in dates etc. Other sections (such as previous PPI) I will leave blank. I will include a covering letter reiterating my reasons for reclaiming, and may also include a sentence or two expressing my dissapointment at the fact they felt the need to send a questionnaire about things they already know (most of which was in my original letter!)0 -
Excuse me poking my nose in.
Another way of looking at it is that they may be seeing if you had sufficient cover anyway that may prove that the PPI was not needed.:mad:0 -

If you had PPI on other credit it would only usually cover THAT credit. If it asks about whether you had other forms of protection for the loan in question (ie covered by work or an income protection or stand alone protection) and you did then that would go in your favour as it was definately not needed.0 -

okay that makes sense - i'll have to re-read the questions later this evening - I may post them up here if I'm not 100% sure what to put (as I know how helpful you lot are on here)
