After being successful with egg twice now, I thought I'd also try for my first loan I took with them. They quickly replied and said this was an online transaction - I had thought all three were on the phone, but still, if this was online, then I really do not think I would have ticked the PPI box. In fact, when I took the loan out, July 2001, I had just graduated, and had a part-time job, working about 10-15 hours a week (thought i had payslips somewhere but probably not, can i find out via old company or via NI?). I don't even know if ppi would have covered me anyway?
Their letter states that their online process:
- does not require you to take repayment protection insurance as a condition of obtaining the loan
- does not provide an advisory service
- required you to positively confirm that you wished to purchase this policy both during the online application and on completing your loan agreement.
- provided full t&c's of the policy and requested you read them before submitting. these documents also detailed your policy cancellation rights, confirming that a full refund of any premiums applied to your account would be made if you cancelled the policy within 30 days.
---
They have closed my case. Can anyone advise how I can follow this up? I'm a bit stuck. I can't remember the online form exactly (this was in 2001), but I am pretty sure that I would have opted out of protection if it was optional. Also not sure where I stand as I was working part-time at the time.
Edit: As this was taken out in 2001, could I go down the route of it being a single premium policy (will I need to check?) as well as the box being pre-ticked and opt-out, rather than opting-in... as well as me being part-time? Their letter says I can still write to them, should I do this one more time with the above, and then say I'm off to FOS?
Many thanks in advance!

Hi Gary
I would move on to the Financial ombudsman service (FOS) now, with your reasons I believe you have a good case, even if this was sold online, at the end of the day the FOS will see it as worthless to you, so you have been out of pocket due to this, go for it Gary.
You can contact the FOS to arrange for them to post you a complaints form, or download and print one off on their website here:
http://www.financial-ombudsman.org.uk/consumer/complaints.htm
Remember to enclose copies of correspondence with the complaints form, good luck.;)

You may be able to get copies of you pay slips. I work on a pay section and we can go back quite a long way. Very old records are kept on microfiche but 2001 is not that old. Copies could be on cd's or even still on the system. It is worth a try, but some companies do charge for copies, if it is not related to a past pay query.
Was it a large company you wer working for?dialysis,mammamia,honey.beaniebabe,saltyfish,funky,Gumbi,Lian,doogle,oldwulf,pinknico,Halpin,alyson,Barloo,jadone,demir,netabc,chickpee,dannyboy,tomgaskel,Lozza001,sandzb,di,marshallka,pengi,lynnie,busbyh,moggy,Kim66,honestbob,tobione,itdonk,arrongborne,thunders,newtonchang,mbones,showergirl, coffeetower,hayston,sappy,dolallytap,AuntieDeedee0
