PPI Reclaiming Discussion part 4

In 2002 we took out a mortgage with HSBC, during our meeting we were told we would have to take out mortgage protection plan with critical illness, and separate PPI (joint mortgage), as well as buildings and contents insurance with the bank - he specifically said this was a term of the mortgage. The buildings and contents we only had for a year as we renewed elsewhere. But had the other 3 policies well into 2007 probably totalling about 11k in all.
Despite this HSBC have said we don't have a claim is it worth going to the Ombudsman -this has taken them 5 months to come back with a no! Had we not been told this there is no way I would have taken out these policies with the bank I would have shopped around.
Yes syber it's definitely worth going to the fos with this, i'm doing exactly the same as you with an hsbc mortgage, i'm also claiming misold on my mortgage policies go for it you sound like you've your reasons and you've had a final response.0 -
Hi I,ve been watching this site for months now and soaking up the advice I put in a claim to Lloyds TSB to reclaim back my ppi on my credit card going back to 1998. I recieved an offer of £1350 and was told this was only going back 6 years however when i called them today they told me it was going back to 1998 i am very suspicious of this but do not know how to calculate the total due to me. Would anyone be kind enough to show me the calculations on 2 months ppi in janet and john style and I will try to calculate the rest myself.
Date 13/12/00 PPi amount £11.27
12/01/01 £12.49
If someone can help me with these 2 figures and explain how to work it out as simply as possible it would be much appreciated and i will try to work out the rest myself. Thanks very much.0 -
Sorry to 'hijack'. Can I ask how you all initiated your claim. Im at a loss how to begin. Can you read my issue and see if its worth making a claim?
I went into a branch of Lloydstsb in Aug 2005 in the hope of having a loan to pay off an outstanding cc debt. rather than ask me how much I needed to borrow, she asked me how much I could afford to pay back each month- I said approx £220 and I was quoted for a 7k loan (paying back 9.5k). No mention of PPI at all, and I was so naive that I didn't mention it (didn't even know what it was). She also put a hard sell on me to purchase life insurance off her colleague - booking an appointment to go and see this person straight away-
A couple of months later I contacted Lloyds Loan centre to see if I could have the PPI removed (I understood what it was then and realised that I didn't need it as I had a good pension through work with life cover and illness). I was told that I would have to reapply for another loan - it wasn't possible to take the PPI off.
So I paid my loan and finished payments some time ago. I have ummed and ahhhed about whether to try and make a claim- is it worth it? I don't know. I have moved house and cannot find any of my loan documentation . How can I get hold of this. Sorry for all of the questions- How much would PPI have been possibly on this amount? as I say- I don't have my documentation.
ANY advice would be wonderful.
Hi emer i'd call LTSB initially and see how you go, the bank might give you the info over the phone failing all other attempts to get the info you could sar them, the bank has 40 days to comply and has to give you the info under the data protection act 1998 but unfortunately this bank arn't always very good at this, there's a £10.00 fee find info on the thread below, good luck with this.

Hi,
Can anyone help me, once you have received a final response letter ie rejection letter, if you then send the company further complaints not in original letter of complaint, do they have to investigate or does the complaint stay closed?
I have been looking on the FSA handbook, but can't make head nor tail of it!!
Thanks
Hi there
They have to investigate each account complaint separately. (if you send them separately), although the FSA would also to check other accounts whilst they are dealing with the one complaint you previously sent them, it does not look like they are doing this, so if you have more accounts of ppi to complain on then go for it.
Going back to the one rejected, they should let you know if you can complain to the Financial ombudsman service (FOS) with leaflet details if eligible.
Sometimes as well, they will also give you another opportunity, such as if you have any further information in relation of the rejected complaint.
Hope this helps, good luck.:)The one and only "Dizzy Di"0 -

Hiya
This is optional, but maybe useful.
When I SAR'd, I had forgotten about other accounts of loans, and this then helped when I did make a reclaim on them, as most of the info was enclosed, but its totally up to you what you want to do.
There is a SAR letter template below to use if you want to, enclose the one off payment of £10 cheque or postal order, and they have 40 calendar days to comply.

Let us know if you need any further info, but you do what you feel is best for you.;) xxThe one and only "Dizzy Di"0 -

Have you any paperwork prior to the times they said they will pay from?
I am not sure once accepted if they will review on the same account once agreed, but there is no harm in trying.
If you can manage to get hold of any paperwork in relation to this account, I would write and tell them you now have the details and as you did not have these before you are requesting them to look into this as from 2001 to the date they paid up to of the PPI.;)The one and only "Dizzy Di"0 -

These points plus others mostly relate to the salesman .
I am now annoyed, I thought that we were fully covered if anything was to happen lucky it did not- should have read the contract better but didnt know that we could have a cooling off period , looked at the contract at home without pressure and changed our minds.
Will now try the FOS route- thanks, feel inspired to carry on and at least try to make a claim, will keep you informed.
Hi
Your welcome and yes I would be annoyed too!
You do have good reasons here, so hopefully the FOS will resolve this for you now.
Fingers crossed. x:)The one and only "Dizzy Di"0 -

Hi there
If you have exhausted all the procedures of complaining to HSBC, then I would now complain to the FOS.
I take it you have received the final decision?
they should enclose details of the FOS in the final response if eligible, or sometimes they will give you an opportunity to write back to them with further information.
Good luck on this case.;)The one and only "Dizzy Di"0 -

Hi there
Yes put in a reclaim with your reasons, on the lloyds site the details of reclaiming are the same as the procedures on this site, the same reclaim questionnaire.
http://www.lloydstsb.com/payment_protection_insurance_complaints.asp
If you bank with them as well, you could either call into the branch and ask them to check the systems for you, they can do this by just using your bank account number.
Another way to find the loan account number is to check old banking statements, the loan account number is normally shown next to the monthly loan repayments made each month.
Even online banking will allow you to go back to about 2002.
Or email them with your details, ask them to send you details of all loans/credit card that included PPI.

Hope this helps, remember to keep copies of the reclaim questionnaire, good luck. The one and only "Dizzy Di"0
