I wonder if anyone can help me, I am new to this forum.

I have ppi on a Lloyds credit card and have just had my claim rejected. My problem is that I am not complaining about the original mis selling of the policy but that I tried to ccancel it in May 2002 to be told that I had to put it in writing, which I did. This request to cancel was ignored. I tried again but was not allowed to cancel over the phone... they sent me out a form to fill in, which again I did and returned and it was once again ignored. I went through this process 4 times before I gave up in 2004.

After reading about ppi on this site in January, I called the bank and they for the first time told me that yes I could cancel over the phone and that I would need to write in to complain about the previous ignored requests to recalim my money.

I did this and now they have sent a final responce saying that they have no record of any contact from me regarding this account! I can't believe that this is true as I have needed to call them many times to discuss being over my limit and also to remove security blocks when using the card in other countries, which happens 2-3 times a year. However they claim that there has never been any calls or letters received!!!

I left the UK to live abroad in May 2002 when I orriginally tried to cancel the policy so I have been paying for something that has been of no use to me for nearly seven years now.

I am not sure if the ombudsman will treat this as a case of mis selling, anyone got any idea if I can continue with the claim through them? Also does it matter that I am not in the UK?

Grateful for any help you can give me.

    Hiya hun

    Lloyds........ .
Funny enough they had shredded my letters! They should have kept these on file for at least 6 years I believe.

Write back to them and complain again, and contact the FOS to see if they can help your case here which Loyds have not resolved if you want to,
    http://www.financial-ombudsman.org.uk/contact/index.html

    I am sure they can.

And at the same time in regards of PPI mis selling check this link here below to see if any of that does occur to you, if so you can treat this as a separate complaint, there are letter templates on the link as well, good luck hun, please keep us posted.;)

This may come as a bit of a surprise but:
You may still be able to make a claim for compensation on PPI , even if you made a claim on the policy. The common misconception is that once you have made a claim you cannot seek redress. This is totally false if you challenge on issues other than mis-selling.
I am a former Broker, former IFA and former compliance officer, for my sins.

However, I have since seen the light.

    Hi Turboman/Maxdp

I've re-checked my bank statement and only the loan amount was deposited into my account not the loan + PPI on all of the loans I've had, so I think I've been had twice or am I missing something????

    Totally confused:confused:
    Moni

Are you saying that the whole PPI Premium was debited from your account (actual bank account) at the outset AND you are paying a monthly premium for the PPI as well ??

    Balance: £13,776.35

    Thank you

    Emma

Right Emma-had a good look at this and everything is ok--my original concern was re the start balance of your new loan but it is now clear as your first payment on old loan was 3 months after agreement date rather than one which is usual.

I can reconcile with your balance of £13,776.35 and therefore the balance remaining on the old cash loan would have been 12,310/15,447.83 = 79.69% of £13,776.35 = £10,978.

Your new loan is for £11,098 so I assume the extra £120 is probabably an admin fee.

Re the PPI refund--I would have expected you to receive PPI Pymts made of £647.24 + 8% Stat interest of £28.17 = 675.41

But they have given you £912.68--an extra £237---SO good deal alround (IMO).

  • Can anyone tell me, I have a PPP (and looks like it was not even signed, but need to do more digging on this) for a large loan I never wanted the PPP and was told I needed it at the time. What I would like to know for now, can I use the PPI forms on here just the same, a few have told me they think there the same thing (PPP and PPI).

Thanks for any help before hand.

    Jonathan.
