    Quick question,

As of today, my complaint has been with Barclays for 16 weeks exactly. Response, none.

I've just called them, and they have basically said it's because they have had to respond to all the pre April 20 complaints by today. Obviously I've told them that this isn't good enough and that they have already had additional time given to them by the ombudsman to deal with my complain.

Anyway, my question is - is it worth me going to the ombudsman or should I just give them another couple of weeks to see what happens, as they have asked me to do.

    Pretty annoyed to be honest.

    Hi

I would contact them again and tell them the FSA given the extra time to 16 weeks and you will now consider contacting them, maybe this will shift them, but definately ask them on a definate time of when you should hear.
    Good luck x

This is pretty much what I told them. That originally they had eight weeks which was extended to sixteen and that was why I was particularly peeved. They said in the next 'couple of weeks' but have noted my displeasure at having to wait and them not sticking to their timescales.

I'll give them the couple of weeks and then threaten with FOS. I'm sure I'm not the only one in this exact situation. Thanks for your help.
  • Hi All,

Have been trawling through the net and through all the forums here and reading the guides. I must have missed something somewhere. I am hoping to make a claim with Egg for PPI on a loan and credit card. I know the first step is to send them a letter but I am finding it really hard to find an example letter to send. Also can someone confirm the timescale? Is this still 8 weeks or has this now been extended to 16 weeks?
    Would appreciate any help.
    Thanks :o

Hello there and not to worry.

You cannot find the template letter now because its changed to reclaim questionnaires, you will find this on step 3 below, remember to keep copies for yourself as well.

As from tomorow the FSA confirm 12 weeks, and after October then its back to 8 weeks, good luck with your reclaiming.

  • Hello - I just wondered if anyone thought it would be worth me pursuing MBNA.

In 2005, I was in a bit of a crisis and started a DMP. One of my creditors was MBNA, with whom I had a credit card and had PPI. They were a bit awkward, but eventually stopped all interest & charges. Payplan advised me to stop any PPI payments as the insurance would be no use to me seeing as I would be paying less than satutory minimum, so I could not have claimed. I wrote to MBNA stopping PPI.

After the DMP had been in place for a couple of months, they phoned me & said the PPI was still in place, would I like them to cancel it. I said yes and she confirmed that she had done this. Very naively, I didn't really check statements until I realised many months later that I was still paying. I wrote to MBNA and they said they had no record of my original letter or the phone call and they would stop it from that point on, but not refund me anything - I was only asking for the amount from the date I stopped it until I realised it was still being paid. they also said that I could still have claimed on the PPI f I had needed to, even though I was not fulfilling statutory minimum repayments. Does anyone know if this is true ?

Does anyone thing I should try again ? It is a few years since they rejected my request. Actually, I'm thinking maybe not claim as they were the only ones who kept me interest free until I had paid the debt off, so what I saved in interest probably out weighs the PPI

    Hi there

In my personal opinion, if you were not able to make full payments and was under a payment plan, I don't think you could have made a claim whilst on DMP, unless someone else can clarify on this.

But you are entitled to make a reclaim and if your successful they will possibly use your refund towards the account to help bring down the balance, if anything remaining plus interest should be awarded directly to you.

If you decide to want to make a reclaim, you still pursue the bank/business who set up and sold you the account, you just complete the reclaim questionnaire below on step 3....
    http://www.moneysavingexpert.com/reclaim/ppi-loan-insurance#step3
Send to the business head office or complaints dept, keep a copy for yourself as well.

They usually have 8 weeks, it did go to 16 weeks as given permission by the FSA because of backlogs of complaints, as from tomorrow they have 12 weeks and after October back to 8 weeks again.
Although they may still try resolving before the 12 weeks is up, good luck.

Hold fire don't go to the fos now unless you get a rejection, up to a 3 year wait.
  • This is my first post - so apologies if I have broken any etiquette rules!
Briefly - I have a £25,000 loan, taken out in 2005 from First Direct. The PPI on this is a total of £7,819!! I know - scandalous. This is not the interest - believe me, I have looked at this long and hard.
Unfortunately, I was laid off for a few months and made a claim - which in itself was ridiculous as it didn't pay out until after I had sorted myself out.
Do I have any right to claim because of the scale of the PPI charges - which I believe to be very high indeed?
I suspect there will be a resounding no - but would be interested on any views.
    Thanks.
