Hi Cappo, this is interesting...do you think the threat of fines will have a real impact on how they speed up this process? Also, wouldn't it be a real positive if the threat of fines stopped some banks, such as Cap One, just saying no to almost every claim?:)

hi citibird no to the first, yes to the second,i don't know it seems as if capital one get away with blue murder.

I just don't get it how can the fsa and the fos expect consumers to be able to sell ppi policies to themselves,i seriously think the fos needs to shake there ideas up about non advised sales, with regard to constantly rejecting cap 1 cases which they nearly always do.:eek::mad:

    Hi Cappo,

It's clear as day that on reading some of the posts on this forum there common tales of certain banks behaving in a way, that if they were not already disreputable, they would be now.

Capital One, as you say, gets away with blue murder...if many consumers are sharing this here, why don't the fos spot it? I really don't know what it would take...

Mind you in a country where politicians steal from taxpayers through expenses, and news industries can make lots of cash from hacking into phones...maybe the expectation is, the big boys with the money get to win - they are above the law? Who is left to trust?
Makes we want to fight all the harder to get every penny I was conned out of....:p:D:D

Was PPI often added to catalogue accounts?

I had a catalogue with Freemans that was opened in 2001 and closed in 2006.

What is the liklihood that this had PPI peeps?

    Cheers Cappo

Guess I will be digging through paperwork later or sending of a SAR.

That Catalogue was abused by the estranged ex wife and I was left with a right nightmare after I kicked her out.

Be nice to rip them a new one as they had zero empathy for me at the time.

    Hi All,

Have been following this board for a while and need some advice regarding my claim against Norton Finance.

I took out a joint secured loan with my mother in August 2007. The loan agreement was sent to me through the post and had a single premium PPI policy added in the loan figures. There was a seperate box which asked me to tick for optional PPI. I left this box blank. There was also somewhere to sign and there once an instruction in pencil for 'my only sign here' which i did.

I noticed when I received my annual statement that PPI was included in the loan so put my complaint into Norton Finance. I have received their final response which basically say's that although the box isn't ticked I had signed the demands and needs statement so therefore I had accepted the insurance. I had indeed signed the demands and needs but so had my mother who was not covered on this policy.

I actually won a case a couple of years ago against GE capital who had taken me to court for defaulting on my car repayments. This loan included PPI but rather that ticking the box I had crossed it. The judge who heard the case said it was clear I didn't want the insurance so reduced the amount I had to pay them.

Do you think I should pass my complaint to the FOS and wait how ever long that will take or would you go through money claim online even though the I could end up paying the cost if I lose.

    Any advice is much appreciated.

I agree with ianc,do it yourself now,i would'nt go down the route of the mcol online at the moment as although the fsa and fos won the judicial review the outcome of these court cases is unclear at the moment. Meaning it's not always going in the consumers favour, only send to fos now upon a rejection as the wait is well past a year now for a straightforward case unless you can have your case fast tracked. good luck
