  • Please can someone advise me.
I started a Virgin Credit Card PPI claim with Belmont Thornton in August 2010. I wont go into details bit they have given me totally rubbish service including losing forms, then finding then, then sitting on them for 3 months and giving me a different story every time I call.
Anyway now apparently I have been referred to their Internal department who deals with Ombudsman escalations (although its going to take them 30-40 days to tell me if they will look at my claim)
Basically, I have no choice but to let them get on with thier process but my question is...
Can I & should I cancel my PPI policy with Virgin? I am now self employed so even if I was out of work the policy would not pay. I do not know how cancelling will affect my claim. Can anyone please help as I have been paying this PPI for over 8 years. I really want to cancel but dare nott risk losing my claim over cancelling this policy.

hi there quick couple of questions.
before i send 2nd letter to central capital asking them to reconsider my complaint.
is it true that PPI will not payout if still recievieng full pay from employer if off work due to accident or sickness?
also would they payout covering your payments for a full five years?

I wanted to post a HUGE thanks to the advice I got on this thread and from this site in general with regard to PPI.

I sent off my paperwork to Santander (ref Alliance & Leicester) about 10 days ago - today I was gobsmacked to get a reply saying they would cancel the remaining PPI and repay the previous payments I'd made plus interest I'd been charged.

    Total refund of £1,763.28

Just got to wait upto 14 days for the money to be transfered into my bank account. (I'll truly believe it when I have that money back! lol)

So THANKS and good luck to everyone else making claims. :j

Hi Everyone where do I get the questionaire and the first letter to send to Halifax regarding loan insurance mis-selling? Also can someone calculate how much I would get should this be successful - thanks.
  • Hi

I looked at my online statement for MBNA credit card for the first time in ages today. I closed the account in June last year to stop them rate-jacking me. I'm sure I asked them at the time to stop the PPI. I was pressurised by the person on the phone into taking out the cover with them when I took out the card (I never used to be able to say no to people). Anyway, they have still been taking the PPI all this time, so I phoned them today and cancelled it.
    So:
    1) do you think I have a claim
    2) am I right in thinking I can try to reclaim even though I have now cancelled
    3) does anyone know the address to write for MBNA as I only have a PO Box in Chester

    Thanks

    Hiya

I am not too sure on this, but I don't think both will pay out, saying that you should automatically get sick pay from your employer, so therefore the ppi would be worthless to you anyway.

Depending on what type of insurance this is, some payout just for the first 12 months, and the other to what I am aware of for the five years is that costly one where it only protects you for the first 5 years, yet if the loan is on a longer term more than the 5 years, you would still be paying for the insurance, and yet it would not cover you after five years have passed, very costly and these are frowned upon.;)

Hiya please feel free to post up the calcs and someone on here will check them for you, and the reclaiming questionnaire you will find here on stage one of reclaiming.
    http://www.moneysavingexpert.com/reclaim/ppi-loan-insurance#reclaim

If you complete the questionnaire, you do not have to worry about a letter as well, unless you more details to add, but the questionnaire replaced the letter template on this site.:)
