Hi all, my first post and just wanted some advice please.
What would you recommend my first step would be if I think I was mis sold PPI on a Virgin loan, the loan is a 4 year one and has about 6 months left to run.
Would it be better to try and so it myself or get one of these companies you hear advertising on TV/Radio to do it on my behalf
Any help much appreciated, never done nowt like this before0 -

Hi and welcome.
My opinion is to try to have a go yourself with free help from this site, where with claims companies you obviously have to pay out, and having a go yourself you pay nothing, other than for the posting at your post office where recorded delivery is recommended.
It makes no difference if the loan is settled or still active, you can still make a reclaim on the PPI for the reasons you have.
All you do is this:
1. Complete the FOS questionnaire (these questionnaires are quite new and issued by the financial ombudsman service) FOS).
2. Once completed send to whoever was responsible for selling you the product, and keep a copy for yourself as well, this is recommended by the FOS in case you need to complain to them later on.
3. They have 8 weeks in full to respond, sometimes they ask for more time to investigate.
If they totally ignore your complaint and you hear nothing at all once the 8 weeks have passed - you have the right to continue to complain to the FOS.
You are also able to complain to the FOS if you do not get a favourable outcome by the final decision, the business should enclose the details/leaflet of the FOS on how to complain to them.
And as suggested - post by recorded delivery, this is your proof of posting.
You will find the FOS questionnaire further down the page on link below, as Stage one of reclaiming:
http://www.moneysavingexpert.com/reclaim/ppi-loan-insurance
Lots on here have been badly let down by claims companies, and its actually straight forward to have a go yourself.
Hope this helps, ask for any help when required and please keep us posted, cheers.;)The one and only "Dizzy Di"0 -

Thanks for that, much appreciated.
One more quick question if I may, in the last 10 years I have a another couple of loans that are now paid off.
I know what banks they are with but have no other records of them, would it be still possible to look at claiming something back of them0 -

Hi and your welcome
Many have been successful in reclaimng even from earlier years 90's so if you have a few to reclaim, I would give it a go, it will help to just have the account numbers so you can just continue to make a reclaim.;)
However, you may find the account numbers by old banking statements, for example, the loan if repaid every month out of your bank account and your still with the same bank/and bank online, this should allow you to go right back 7 maybe 8 years, the account number is normally shown next to the monthly repayment.:)The one and only "Dizzy Di"0 -
i have a quick question i need about my ppi
in the loan agreement paperwork i signed to say i wanted the ppi solely( but at the time 3 years ago we obviously thought it was for both of us) which the paperwork clearly states nowhere on it that it covers my ex partner??
when i first started my claim hsbc sent me a letter stating they have informed my partner due to it being a "joint policy"
am i to assume they are referring to the loan?? or do they mean the ppi policy??
this was one of my factors on claiming, would this be valid mis-selling
thoughts please??0 -

Hi there
With the secured loans both me and hubby had jointly, the ppi only protected him and not me, I would not have been eligible anyway, but would have still been responsible for the loan payments.
So when you and your partner parted did you sign to take over the loan?
I assume if this was the case then this would not know be anything to do with your partner.
I take it them mean the ppi, when your loan was taken out who was the first one named on the policy, was it you or your partner?
Cheers.;)The one and only "Dizzy Di"0 -
You are welcome
you will get there in the end, by the way did you use a broker or was it just with fp? if it was a broker you need to write to them as well.Good luck, i wont say fingers crossed as i am sure you will win this x
Your optimism is encouraging! I hope you are right! Thanks so much.
All best,
