OK, so I've had a response from my partner's loan company regarding her PPI.

They are basically blaming the whole selling of the loan and PPI on the broker, a company, who apparently, are no longer in business, so they can't pass the complaint onto the broker company. A quick call to the broker's original phone number put me through to a credit broker with a different name. The lady I spoke to confirmed that most of the staff there used to work for the original broker. Looking at the original broker's website, also transfers you directly to the new company. Sounds like it's a case of them just changing their name to try and avoid paying people out.

I called the loan company to query the whole thing and they tell me that the outstanding monies paid for the insurance up front, will be reclaimed from the insurance company (Aviva) and will be taken off the top of the loan free of charge. There's usually a £55 charge for a lump sum payment off the loan. I should expect a letter with the figure within a couple of days.

The letter from the loan company (not sure if I can name them on here) also says that my next step is with the Financial Services Compensation Scheme.

    Hellllpppp?

    Hi there

Sorry about this, but there are other ways around this.

What year did you take out your loan?

Many of us have been the direction of the FSCS, so just as long as they are listed with the FSCS, its just a matter of going through them, you contact them, they send you a form to complete, but make sure the business are listed with them first and take it from there.

Please could you tell us who the broker was?
    Thanks.;)

Hi there, what do they mean "the outstanding monies will be taken off the top of the loan with no charge" ? bo*****s you want mis sell and all the ppi premiums paid to date back with interest, plus the loan restated with no ppi and the monthly payment of ppi taken of your monthly payments, give them a ring and ask them exactly what they mean. And yes, name and shame the company!!!
